“It Saved My Life”: How a Simple Test Unveiled Olivia Munn’s Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Olivia Munn has opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis. The “X-Men: Apocalypse” actress recently shared with her fans that she’s been undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and it’s both heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.
In a heartfelt social media post, the 43-year-old opened up about something pretty heavy: she had to go through a double mastectomy after finding out she had breast cancer. It’s the kind of news that hits you right in the gut, but Olivia’s openness about it sheds some much-needed light on the importance of early detection and getting checked out regularly.
“I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Olivia wrote in her post. “I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey.” That’s bravery right there, using her platform to spread awareness and support.
So, here’s how it all went down: Olivia and her sister decided to get tested for various cancer genes, including the notorious BRCA gene. They both got the all-clear, and even their mammograms looked fine. But here’s the twist – Olivia’s doctor decided to take an extra step and calculate her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score, just to be safe.
“It Saved My Life”
“The fact that she did saved my life,” Olivia shared, emphasising the critical role this risk assessment played. Despite seemingly low risk, her calculated score was 37%, prompting further screening. It goes to show that sometimes, it’s the small, proactive steps that can make all the difference.
Thanks to that risk assessment, Olivia went in for more tests, and that’s when they found cancer in both of her breasts. She describes it as an “aggressive” type — something that needed immediate attention.
“I went from feeling completely fine one day, to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next,” Olivia wrote. “I’m lucky. We caught it with enough time that I had options.”
Can you imagine? One day you’re living your life, and the next, you’re facing down one of the scariest battles imaginable. But here’s the thing — Olivia’s grateful. Grateful that they caught it in time, grateful for the support of her loved ones, and grateful for the opportunity to share her story.
“I’m So Thankful”
“I’m so thankful to my friends and family for loving me through this,” Olivia expressed, showing her appreciation for those who stood by her side.
And she didn’t forget to mention her boyfriend, John Mulaney, who went above and beyond to support her through every step of her journey.
“For being there before I went into each surgery and being there when I woke up, always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes,” she added.
Olivia kept her health battle under wraps until now, needing time to process and heal before opening up to the world. But her decision to share her journey is a beacon of hope for others facing similar challenges. Her bravery and resilience serve as a reminder that even in the darkest times, there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
