This Fruity-Floral Perfume Smells Like Summer in a Bottle

Ellis Brooklyn

What scent comes to mind when you think of summer? For some, it’s the smell of coconut sunscreen; for others, it’s the aroma of salty sea spray. As for me, it’s Sun Fruit , the latest fragrance from Ellis Brooklyn. The eau de parfum, which is housed in an enigmatic lime-green bottle, encompasses the variety of scents that make up the fresh, vibrant energy of summer.

At first whiff, Sun Fruit smells bright and crisp, thanks to Italian bergamot, fresh fig, and pear, but then slowly gives way to a subtle blend of earthy florals (like jasmine and orris) before the warm vanilla, coconut, amber, and musk base notes soften everything out. The fruity and floral notes work in perfect harmony and, when married together, make for a fragrance that’s perfect for the warmer months.

Before I even tested the scent itself, I was immediately struck by the electric-green bottle. No other perfume bottle on my vanity looks quite like this one. It still has that signature Ellis Brooklyn look (translation: a minimalist-yet-fun octagonal bottle in an unexpected colour), but it screams “summer fun.” As cheesy as it sounds, I imagine Sun Fruit is kind of like what my Pinterest board would smell like if it came to life: happy-looking people relaxing under Positano’s finest lemon trees or friends sipping a refreshing glass of Rosé at a lush Hamptons estate. When I first spritzed it onto my wrists, I picked up the fruity notes of pear and bergamot. I gave it a minute or two to meld with my skin. After a few minutes, I really started to notice the jasmine come into play, softening the fragrance as a whole.

As with most other fragrances, Sun Fruit becomes less pungent as the day goes on, but it doesn’t completely go away. I was still able to catch a whiff of it on my clothes and on my skin late in the afternoon. By nighttime, Sun Fruit smells clean and musky, almost identical to my other favourite Ellis Brooklyn scent, Myth.

I can’t rave about this perfume enough. The launch comes at the most opportune moment – right as the first spring flowers are blooming – and serves as the perfect reminder that summer will be here before we know it. And I, for one, can’t wait.
