“I’m a Gemini!” Who knew those three words would be the start of Abbie Chatfield’s flourishing media career. After appearing on Dr Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor, the 26-year-old began forging an empire and is possibly one of the biggest success stories to come out of the franchise.
She may not have won over Agnew’s heart, but the entire nation fell in love with her outspoken nature. After her stint on The Bachelor, Chatfield went on to star in Bachelor In Paradise Australia, I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! (which she won), hosted Love Island After Party, launched a wildly successful podcast, It’s A Lot, and now, is the host of her own radio show Hot Nights With Abbie Chatfield.
She also recently announced a nationwide tour called A Hot Night With Abbie Chatfield, where she’s set to travel to five Australian cities later in the year. And all of that is just the tip of the iceberg. But despite the fame and fortune she obtained from the dating reality show, Abbie revealed there were some strict rules about what the contestants could and couldn’t do immediately after the series ended.
One example she gave was that they couldn’t make any money from paid partnerships on social media for three months after the finale.
“I had a job and didn’t really care, people were like, ‘how do we make money?’ And I was like, don’t quit your job to go on a reality show!” Abbie said on her radio show. “They have advertisement agreements. [It’s] not because they want to be mean, people are like, ‘it’s cause they don’t want us to be influencers!’ Um, no it’s not.”
She also dropped just how much she was paid during her time on the show and spoiler alert: It wasn’t much. Luckily, a special set of circumstances allowed her to make big bucks that year.
“I got paid $90 a day, but for me it was much more… I didn’t work for three months… it’s tax-free, I got money back on tax that year, I came out with no expenses. I came out with $10,000, it was great,” she said.
So there you have it. If you’re contemplating whether or not you should apply for a reality show, then make sure you don’t quit your day job.
