AJ Crimson, Beauty Pioneer and Brand Founder, Has Died

AJ Crimson, renowned celebrity makeup artist and founder of his eponymous makeup line, has died, WWD confirms. The cause of death and his exact age is unknown.

Crimson, who is a self-taught makeup artist with more than two decades of experience to his name, is best known for his work with a long list of prestigious celebrity clients, including Brandy, Missy Elliot, Regina King, Angela Bassett, and more.

He’s credited as a pioneer of inclusivity in the beauty industry. His namesake brand, which launched in 2013, focused on creating luxury colour cosmetics products with women of colour at the forefront. His products have been used for countless fashion shows and on set for big productions such as “Scandal,” “American Horror Story,” “The Hunger Games,” and “Black Panther.”

Since the news of his death broke on Wednesday, many industry peers have posted heartfelt tributes to him, including makeup artist Sir John, hairstylist Kim Kimble, and makeup artist Erika La Pearl.
