10 Australian Podcasts That Are Definitely Worth a Listen
With COVID-19 restrictions easing around the country, many of us have recommenced our twice daily commutes. Although this may inspire dread in some, it does also present the opportunity to get back into starting (and ending) our days by catching up on our favourite podcasts.
These days, there is a podcast or twenty for every imaginable topic, making it tricky to choose which ones deserve the time in your ears. To make life a tad easier, here are ten of our favourite Australian podcasts you need to be listening to:
Black Magic Woman Podcast
Hosted by Mundanara Bayles who was born and raised in Redfern (Sydney) Australia and currently lives in Queensland, the Black Magic Woman Podcast is an uplifting conversational style program featuring mainly First Nations people from Australia and around the world sharing their stories.
The podcast aims to highlight the diversity and resilience of First Nations peoples and Bayles hopes these stories will inspire her listeners and also create a better understanding of First Nations Peoples culture and history.

Casefile Presents: The Vanishing of Vivienne Cameron
If you can’t get enough of true crime, then The Vanishing of Vivienne Cameron should be on your list.
Listeners will be thrust into the Phillip Island murder of Beth Barnard and disappearance of Vivienne Cameron in 1986, with the podcast being an extension of the 2018 Casefile episode Case 80: Beth Barnard.
Hosted by Vikki Petraitis, who is also the co-author of the book, The Phillip Island Murder, the series will highlight people she first interviewed in the early 1990s and re-examines the case that has baffled people for over three decades.

Hosted by 26-year-old Rowdie Walden, Search Engine Sex is Spotify Australia’s first original podcast. If you have ever Googled a question about sex, relationship, fetishes, sexual health or anything in between then this podcast is right up you, er, alley.
According to Walden, Search Engine Sex defines the problem and then attempts to reverse engineer what that solution to that issue is. Setting it apart from other sex themed podcasts is the fact that Walden is an Indigenous Australian who strives to make his platform as diverse and inclusive as possible.

Shameless
Hosted by Melbourne writers Michelle Andrews and Zara McDonald, Shameless was launched in 2018 for “smart women who love dumb stuff”.
Andrews and McDonald aim to provide young people with the type of content they want but can’t find in mainstream media. The pair break down the idea that interests such as reality TV, social media and Hollywood are silly, ridiculous, and only enjoyed by women.
The podcast is released twice-weekly with the Monday episode dissecting the top pop-culture and celebrity news of the week while the Thursday episode interviews an influential personality as part of an in conversation.

Temporary
Temporary was created by The University of NSW (UNSW) in a new project which sees refugees in Australia share their stories. The podcast has been produced in a collaboration with UNSW’s Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law, UNSW Centre for Ideas and The Guardian Australia.
Temporary lays bare a system designed to deter people fleeing danger and seeking protection in Australia, offering rare access to people who have lived the experience.
The series aims to shine a spotlight on people in what is known as the “legacy caseload” with their stories coming to life in an eight-episode series hosted by Sisonke Msimang — an Australian based writer whose own family was granted asylum in Canada.
