Still Obsessed With Netflix's The One? Here Are 12 Similar Shows to Stream Next
If a show features any combination of dystopian worlds, science, and romance, consider me hooked. As you can imagine, then, I was excited to watch The One, a British show that includes all of those elements.
The One is about finding your perfect romantic match based on your genes, and all the good and bad that can come from a scientific advance like that. If you’ve seen the show, you know it’s engaging from the first episode on, which is something I can’t say about every series.
If you need something similar to the watch, I’ve got you covered. For 12 shows like The One you can binge next, read ahead.
Behind Her Eyes
The One is filled with scientific ideas, romantic relationships, secrets, and murder ー and so is Behind Her Eyes. Even better, it has one of the most shocking plot twists I’ve seen!
Black Mirror
If you liked The One and you haven’t already seen Black Mirror, this is the easiest recommendation of all time. Each episode is about a potential technological advance, and the fourth episode of season four, “Hang the DJ,” has a relationship storyline like The One does.
How to Get Away With Murder
While the research and romantic aspects of The One are entertaining, I can’t forget about the suspense and mystery that come with Ben’s murder. For another show about murder and how to cover it up (it;s literally in the title), watch How to Get Away With Murder.
Dark
Like The One, Dark is a twisty and mind-bending mystery show. After two children go missing, their families look for them and encounter other interesting characters in their creepy town.
Unnatural Selection
The One doesn’t go into great detail about the DNA matching process (because, you know, it’s not real) but you can learn a whole lot about the science within our genes in Unnatural Selection, a docuseries from 2019.
The Wilds
The Wilds and The One may very well coexist within the same extended world of streaming TV. In this show, you’ll see dystopian themes, the presentation of new and scientific ideas, LGBTQIA+ characters, people sacrificing their livelihood for their research, and more. It’s so good that I watched it in only a few days, and I can hardly wait for season two!
The Handmaid's Tale
If the power trips and dystopian themes in The One intrigued you, you may love watching The Handmaid’s Tale. Both of these shows are also based on books you can read before or after watching the shows.

The Sinner
For another show about murder and mystery that’s based on a book, check out The Sinner. In this show, Detective Harry Ambrose solves murder cases full of unexpected moments and twists, all while dealing with his own challenges. Like Rebecca in The One, he has a complicated and not-so-great past.
You
You is also about a charming and obsessive protagonist, and it’s filled with stalking and murder. The star-studded cast includes actors and actresses from other popular shows, like Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti!
Tell Me Your Secrets
Murder! Love! The fight for justice! Tell Me Your Secrets is a great show to watch if you love The One. In this thriller, you’ll see three characters dealing with dark motives that end up intersecting.
Soulmates
In The One, did seeing the matches and how they unfolded interest you? Watch Soulmates! In this show, The Soulmate Test affects six characters who aren’t happy with their partners.
Damages
If you thought Rebecca’s cutthroat nature added suspenseful drama to the show, check out Damages next. In this show, a new lawyer crosses paths with a cutthroat attorney who will do whatever it takes to win ー which includes endangering her family.
