9 Times Harry Styles’s Sweater (and Sweater Vest!) Game Was Unequivocally Unmatched
Harry Styles has come a long way since his One Direction days – creatively, romantically, musically, and perhaps most notable of all, fashionably. Roughly 10 years ago when he was fresh off his stint on The X Factor, the singer-songwriter fancied muted suits, skinny jeans, sporty tracksuits, flannel button-downs, and the occasional wide-brim hat. But after he began pursuing his career as a solo artist, Harry’s true sense of style began to shine in all its quirky glory.
Nowadays, Harry frequently steps out in brightly coloured suits, heeled leather boots, wide-leg trousers, and an impressive collection of cozy sweaters and sweater vests. No seriously, we’re starting to believe he may have an entirely separate closet just for his knitwear – or perhaps a cedar chest à la Schitt’s Creek‘s David Rose? To celebrate Harry’s fun sweater style, we’ve compiled our 16 favourite looks from the past few years, featuring pieces by Gucci (duh), Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, and more designer brands. Crank up Fine Line and check out every enviable outfit ahead.
The Classic Blue Sweater
We have no choice but to stan this colorblocking king! While visiting the SiriusXM Studios in New York City in March 2020, Harry layered a classic royal blue sweater over a scallop-collared shirt and finished the look with green trousers, a pearl necklace, and white loafers.
The Sheep-Print Sweater Vest
The internet essentially shattered into a zillion pieces when Harry stepped out in this endearing sheep print sweater vest by Lanvin in November 2019. Fans instantly drew comparisons to a similarly printed sweater Princess Diana wore back in the day, and Harry chose to style his with a striped shirt, navy pants, and light-pink boots. What. A. Look.
The Striped Sweater Vest
Who could possibly forget when Harry jumped onstage at a Lizzo concert in Miami to sing a “Juice” duet with her? Certainly not us. His outfit for the iconic occasion? A cropped, ’70s-esque sweater vest worn with an oversize, untucked button-down and beige trousers, obviously. Only the best for Queen Lizzo.
The Graphic Cardigan
OK, so this one’s technically a cardigan, but how could we not include it?! The knit Lanvin piece has black sleeves and Times Square-inspired graphics on the front, and the fact that he paired it with Vans is just *chef’s kiss*.
The Pink Plaid Sweater Vest
Psh, you didn’t think we’d leave out this Gucci look, now did you? After lighting up the 2021 Grammys stage in an all-leather ensemble, Harry changed into this chic Cher Horowitz-inspired look consisting of a yellow houndstooth blazer, brown velvet pants, a purple fuzzy boa, and a pink plaid sweater vest with a deep-V neckline. Oh, and let’s not forget about that risqué banana necklace of his either.
The Rainbow Crochet Cardigan
Harry sparked TikTok’s favorite fashion DIY project after he wore this rainbow patchwork cardigan by JW Anderson to rehearse for a Today show performance in February 2020. So many people were buzzing about the look, in fact, that JW Anderson wound up releasing the pattern to the public for people to recreate it at home while sheltering in place. Harry’s got some fashion influence, that’s for damn sure.
The Yellow Polka-Dot Sweater Vest
For a secret concert in New York City, Harry served up grandma chic in a yellow and blue Lanvin sweater vest, striped button-down, navy pinstripe trousers, and red heeled boots. God, do we love it when he rolls his sleeves to show off his tattoos.
The Classic Brown Sweater
This throwback look is from Harry’s 2017 Today show appearance. You can almost feel how soft and snuggly his Balenciaga sweater is just by looking at it.
The Purple Sweater
Who could forget the trio of chic-as-hell outfits Harry rocked at the 2020 BRIT Awards? Certainly not us. Before changing into an intricate lace Gucci jumpsuit and later, an effervescent yellow Marc Jacobs suit, the “Kiwi” singer walked the red carpet in a brown suit, purple wool sweater, embroidered collared shirt, leather Mary Janes, and his favorite pearl necklace.
