Liv Tyler to Make Her Marvel Return in “Captain America 4” With Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford
“Captain America 4” – officially titled “Captain America: New World Order” – is giving Marvel fans something to look forward to amid a long wait for the movie’s arrival, with some new and old faces joining the cast.
Anthony Mackie has already been named the lead of the newest Captain America film installment, starring as hero Sam Wilson – which marks the actor’s first time taking up the Captain America mantle on the big screen. But on March 28, another Marvel actor was revealed to be making their return for the upcoming movie: “The Incredible Hulk” actor Liv Tyler.
That’s right, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Tyler will reprise her role as scientist Betty Ross, aka the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross – who will be played by none other than legendary actor Harrison Ford going forward, per Deadline‘s October 2022 announcement. At the time, Disney did not respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment on the casting news.
Harrison’s role was originally played by William Hurt, who debuted as Ross in “The Incredible Hulk” in 2008 and appeared as the character in “Captain America: Civil War,” the Avengers films, and “Black Widow.” However, Hurt died in March 2022 at age 71. Harrison’s Ross is also expected to appear in 2024’s “Thunderbolts” movie.
News of Tyler and Harrison’s casting comes after Disney announced some of the new and returning cast for “Captain America: New World Order” at the D23 Expo back in September 2022, for which POPSUGAR was on hand. The movie also got its official title and release date two months prior at San Diego Comic-Con.
That same month, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Julius Onah would direct the new Captain America installment, which will see Mackie’s Sam pick up the famed shield left behind by Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers. The Nigerian American filmmaker is best known for movies like “The Cloverfield Paradox” and “Luce” and is set to direct the upcoming Jean-Michel Basquiat biopic, “Samo Lives.”
Plot details for “Captain America: New World Order” remain scarce, but the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” set the stage for this next part of Sam’s story. In the final episode of the series, Sam, previously known as the Falcon, becomes Captain America.
While the previous Captain America films star Evans’s Steve, the upcoming installment will be solely Sam’s story. Though there were rumblings that Evans was in talks to reprise his role as Captain America in 2021, it was also noted that any future appearance wouldn’t be for another Captain America movie.
