Highly regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, Oscar De La Hoya had a boxing career that earned him 10 world titles across six different weight classes. He won his first gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, and went on to compete for the next 16 years before ultimately hanging up his gloves in 2008. Throughout his career, De La Hoya made over $700 million just in pay-per-view income, per Forbes, and following his retirement, the boxing legend has dedicated time to his boxing promotional firm Golden Boy Promotions. The life and legacy of De La Hoya, including his relationships over the years, is at the forefront of the two-part HBO documentary “The Golden Boy,” streaming now on Max.

Outside of his profession, De La Hoya has had a number of high-profile relationships and is a father to six children. His hectic boxing career didn’t always make it easy for him to be around for his kids, but the star nonetheless supports them as much as he can today. He opened up about his experience with fatherhood in an episode of the “Allison Interviews” podcast, sharing, “I did try to be a father full-time for a few years, and it was beautiful. It was amazing to raise a little girl, but there came a point where you say to yourself, ‘Wait a minute. You’re not worthy of this.’ You try to convince yourself that you are not worthy of this; that love is not possible in your life, because of what I lived through, not receiving that love when I was a kid. My father never told me, ‘I love you.'”
