The early 2000s gave us a lot to remember from a beauty perspective – chunky highlights, frosted lips, blue eyeshadow, side bangs – and thanks to Ashley Tisdale’s throwback photo on Instagram, it’s all coming back to us. She uploaded a snapshot from her High School Musical days in 2007 during a visit to MuchOnDemand in Toronto, Canada. The hairstyle features choppy (and we mean very choppy) layers, a side bang, and, best of all, her blond hair with chunky brown highlights.
“At much music, remember when this hair colour was a thing,” her caption read. “Blonde with black stripes.” We remember it well. The contrasted chunky highlights remind us of another ’00s star, Avril Lavigne, and judging by the comments, Tisdale’s fans seem to agree.
In case you missed it, chunky highlights are making a comeback this year. In March, Jennifer Lopez debuted her own version of the hair colour with caramel-blond highlights. While we don’t know if the drastic look will be reappearing anytime soon, we can’t say Tisdale’s throwback picture doesn’t make us nostalgic.
