The 5 Best LED Masks to Give Your Your Best Skin Ever
It’s that time of year when all you can think of is buying gifts. Whether it’s a Christmas present for your tween, a gift for your mum, or trying to pick the perfect present for a couple you love there is always something you need to buy. But what about you? I’m all about giving yourself a bit of self-care at this time of year and that includes giving yourself a treat too. Whether it’s your Black Friday buy or the item you want on your Christmas list, one of the most coveted beauty gifts has to be the LED mask.
LED masks have been gaining popularity over the last few years thanks to the development of at-home technology that means you can get salon results with a click of a button at home. The benefits of LED are well documented, thanks to its skin-improving benefits. Originally developed in the 1960s for NASA to use in helping heal wounds of the astronauts in space, it uses visible red or near-infrared light to stimulate, heal, or regenerate the skin’s cells. This means it’s great for anti-aging, tightening and improving skin texture.
There are different lights, the most studied and widely used LED light therapies include blue, best known for its anti-bacterial properties, yellow that has been found to reduce inflammation, infrared and red which are probably the most popular and said to fight fine lines and boost collagen production. There is also green LED light which is not as common but is said to help with wound healing.
Understanding what your skin needs is also a good way to select the right mask for you. As I turned 40, I really felt that my skin was lacking in radiance and was starting to sag so for me this was a priority and the reason I chose an LED mask with red light. I have been using an LED mask for a year now and I honestly believe it has been skin-changing for me – I feel like a bit of a broken record when I am recommending them to friends and family who have all asked for advice on how to improve their skin.
Whether you’re buying for yourself or someone you love, or hoping by reading this it will get the algorithm working for good in your household, then I have compiled my top five LED masks and explained which one is best for whatever you need.
Best For Overall Skin Improvement: Current Body Skin LED Light Therapy Series 2
If you knock on my door anytime from 8pm there is a chance you will be greeted by this mask. I started using it for a review I was writing but months later I am still using it at least four times a week and I can’t get enough. I really notice a difference when I don’t use it for a few days, as my skin looks dull and doesn’t appear as tight. I have written a full review here, but I just love the ease of using this as it fits the face well, you can get up and carry on with whatever you are doing (although I prefer to sit and relax with mine) and it switches off after 10 mins so there is no worry about leaving it on. The battery lasts for ages too.
Best For Targetting Under Eye: Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling & LED Anti-Ageing & Blemish Repair
If your main concern is the under eye area, but also want the benefits of an LED mask, then this is for you. It has all the benefits of the other LED masks on the market as well as a targeted setting (without LED) that is designed to help reduce inflammation and puffiness in this area. The under eye function uses two active points to help firm, tighten, soothe and depuff under-eyes using an adjustable five, 10 or 15-minute under-eye cooling routine for a soothing and refreshing experience designed for optimal relaxation.
Best For Acne Prone Skin: Dr Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro
If blemishes and acne are your main skin concerns, then this is the mask for you. It has red and blue lights, which can be used together or separately allowing you to target your main concern at that exact time of use. It is expensive but it’s double function means you don’t need to purchase multiple skincare devices. For anyone who suffer from hormonal acne, meaning it is only at certain times that their skin will have spots, this can be a lifesaver as it means you don’t need to sacrifice anti-aging to help fight bacteria on the skin.
Best LED Mask Under £100: Stylpro Wavelength LED Mask
An LED mask under £100? Yes please. This is ideal for those who want to dabble with an LED mask but aren’t ready for the commitment of shelling out hundreds of pounds. It has four different treatments depending on what you are looking to target, which include anti-aging to help fight fine lines and wrinkles with its red and near infrared lights, as well as Target, which is blue light to help the appearance of breakouts, blemishes and improve texture. For the cost this is definitely the best value for money and with consistent use I am sure you will still see really great results.
Best Salon At-Home LED Mask: Current Body Dermalux lex MD LED Light Therapy Device
If you’ve had LED therapy at a salon it was probably under a device that looked like this Dermalux machine. You simply lie underneath and light is so strong it works its magic from a distance without sitting on your face. This is obviously a lot more expensive than some of the at-home mask, but it is on a totally different level as it is clinic-level strength. One advantage of this is that it can be used by multiple people in the family and is good for those who may find the mask too claustrophobic.
