TikTok is a haven of beauty secrets. From blow-dry techniques and hair-gem stampers to skin-care routines and nail art, there’s a wealth of tips, tricks, and trends to keep your inner beauty fan satisfied.
The latest social media craze on #MakeupTok is lip combos. A staggering 557 million viewers have watched videos captioned #lipcombo on TikTok in a bid to find out the best lip-liner / lipstick/lip-gloss mix to wear together.
While some have a signature lip combo that they wear every day, others look to celebrities for inspiration. If you’re in the market for a makeup makeover, we’ve done the research so you don’t have to. If you’ve been searching for the exact lippy worn by Simone Ashley, the ’90s liner adored by Alexa Demie, or the gloss loved by Lily James, you’ve come to the right place. Read on to get the chic combos loved by the stars.
Celebrity Lip Combos: Simone Ashley
In this very picture, we know exactly what lipstick and liner Simone Ashley is wearing. In fact, we know every single product that she is wearing. The (makeup artist who painted Ashley’s face for the 2022 Met Gala revealed every detail of her beauty look on Instagram. On her lips, Ashley is wearing Pat McGrath Labs Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil in Brownoveaux ($48) and Trance Lipstick in Flesh 5 ($64).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Doja Cat
Doja Cat was decked out in Pat McGrath for the Grammys earlier this year. In this photo, the “Say So” singer is wearing Pat McGrath Labs PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil in Deep Dive ($48) and Lust: Gloss in Love Potion ($48).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Lily James
Lily James’s looks are ever-changing, and she stunned fans with her transformation into Pamela Anderson for the miniseries “Pam & Tommy”. We couldn’t get enough of the lip combo the actress was sporting in this role. For the beach scenes, James wore a look that simply oozed ’90s glam (and was total Pamela Anderson vibes). According to David Williams, head of the film’s makeup team, James wore the MAC Lip Pencil in Spice ($32) and Rouge Coco Flash in Boy by Chanel ($62).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Nella Rose
We can’t say for sure how YouTuber host Nella Rose keeps her lipgloss so popping, but she did reveal a little secret in a 2021 makeup tutorial on her channel. The “Catfish UK” host said she uses the MAC Lip Pencil in Chestnut ($32) and a MAC lip gloss on top – we recommend the MAC Lipglass Lip Gloss in Spice ($35).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Mahalia
“Sober” singer Mahalia has been spotted wearing the same stunning lip combo a few times, so it’s safe to say this is her signature look. Thanks to MUA @hilakarmand, we know that the 24-year-old likes wearing CTZN Cosmetics Lip stroke in San ($16) with the brand’s Nudiversal Lip Duo in Capri ($39).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Adele
Adele wore a full face of Pat McGrath for her famous Vogue cover in 2021, and she looked stunning. The “Go Easy on Me” singer was sporting the Pat McGrath Labs PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil in Buff ($55) and Matte Trance Lipstick in Christy ($62).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Hailey Bieber
Hailey Bieber is a beauty icon in her own right, influencing just about everyone to copy her glazed donut manicure. But what about her lips? Bieber isn’t shy in appreciating the Make Up For Ever Anywhere Liners. In several different videos she has been seen using the pencils in shades Anywhere Caffeine ($29) and Endless Cocoa ($29), both shades are currently sold out at Sephora Australia – but you can waitlist yourself here. Hailey pairs these with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipstick ($49).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Mabel
Mabel is another Ctzn Cosmetics fan, with her MUA regularly painting the singer’s lips with the brand’s Lip Stroke in Cinco ($29), Nudiversal in Dubai ($19) and Globalm in Pearl ($35).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Phoebe Dynevor
“Bridgerton“‘s season one ‘It’ Girl’s lip look couldn’t be easier to achieve. If you want to get Dynevor’s slightly pink and plump look, all you need is Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk ($35) and a touch of lip balm. That’s literally it, according to her recent makeup tutorial for Vogue. Charlotte Tilbury herself confirmed that the actor wore the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Pillow Talk Original ($49) on set for a more dramatic look.
Celebrity Lip Combos: Leigh-Anne Pinnock
Leigh-Anne Pinnock of Little Mix wears flawless makeup, and now, thanks to MUA Hila Karmand, who did the band’s makeup for a fair bit of the Confetti Tour, we know she wore a Chantecaille Lip Definer in Tone ($29) with Ctzn Cosmetics Nudiversal in Capri ($39), topping the look off with the brand’s Globalm ($35).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Alexa Demie
“Euphoria” is responsible for the resurgence of glitter, neon eyeshadows, rhinestone gems, and, of course, ’90s lips. Alexa Demie, who plays Maddy, wore a dark-brown lip liner with matte nude lipstick and dabbled in high-shine lip gloss throughout the show. And in real life, Demie shares her character’s love for ’90s glam.
In a 2019 makeup tutorial, Demie said: “I don’t ever not wear lip liner . . . sometimes I even layer lip liners.” While we don’t know for sure which products Demie wears on a daily basis, a makeup artist she worked with on the set of “Euphoria” has revealed which products she used on the actor.
Alexandra French, who worked on season 2, said that Demie wore Make Up For Ever’s popular liners in Whatever Walnut and Endless Cacao, and lashings of lip gloss throughout the filming of the hit HBO show. Our favourite combination that she wore was the beautiful MAC Strip Down Lip Pencil ($32) and MAC Lustre Glass Lipstick in Mars to Your Venus ($35).
Celebrity Lip Combos: Zendaya
Zendaya often does her own makeup for events. The “Euphoria” star even went without a MUA for the 2022 Oscars. However, she is fond of a bold, red lip – and she executes it well. As a Lancôme ambassador, it’s no surprise that Zendaya‘s favourite lip combo is from the French luxury brand’s roster. On an irretrievable Instagram story, Zendaya said she likes to mix together Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Intimatte in 888 ($58) and Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Intimatte in 155 ($52 via Amazon) for a bespoke look.
