Like Kate Moss, I Tested Out Charlotte Tilbury’s New Mascara By Going Out Dancing

Turning 23 in the middle of my period meant there was bound to be some tears. But is it even your birthday if you don’t shed a tear or two?

That in mind, I thought my big day would be the best testing environment for Charlotte Tilbury’s Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara (£28), especially after reading Kate Moss’ review of the product. She said: “When Charlotte told me that the volume and curl lasts for 28 hours, I didn’t believe her, but we went out dancing after the [photo] shoot and it did not budge, smudge or flake!”

Similar to Moss, I too would be out dancing for my birthday, so what better opportunity to test the new Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara for myself? My birthday plans were simple: A few friends round, card games, oddly-mixed cocktails, laughter, pizza and pictures. Then we’d head to Camden to finish the night on the dance-floor at the Jazz Cafe. I’m sure Moss would approve.

I’m not asking much of the Exagger-Eyes mascara, just to last through the eating, laughter, camera flashing, sweaty London underground, sticky, stuffy nightclub, and finally, the birthday tears which would probably arrive as the clock strikes 12. With my Exagger-Eyes wand at the ready, my birthday celebrations (and my review) began.

  • Exagger-Eyes claims to offer multiplied, thicker, fanned-out looking lashes thanks to it’s ultra-curved lash styler brush and the lash vinyl-black wrap tech packed inside.

How to Use Charlotte Tilbury’s Exagger-Eyes Mascara

The claims of more volume after just one application meant I only swiped my lashes with the product once to really put this to the test. I also made sure not to pump the wand again, this is mainly to prevent the product from drying out and is how I would usually apply mascara.

I made sure to coat the lashes on my inner and outer corners, too and I found that the Exagger-Eyes brush reached these areas with ease, while focusing on the centre of my lashes, thanks to its curved design that’s slightly thicker in the middle. To push this experiment to the limit, I also used the mascara on my lower, outer lashes.

What I Liked About Charlotte Tilbury’s Exagger-Eyes Mascara

Firstly, there’s a certain luxe feeling to wearing a mascara, dispensed from a glass bottle, that supermodels wear. Very special, very birthday-coded.

Another plus, it didn’t move. Like at all. Aside from the birthday tears which were imminent, my eyes typically water after applying makeup. It’s incredibly annoying and not all of the mascaras I’ve tried have lasted, but Exagger-Eyes didn’t budge, even my lower lashes were still intact.

The heavy blinks while taking pictures, the tears of laughter, the sweat on my eyelids as I travelled on the ungodly hot London underground – all of these factors were no match for Exagger-Eyes.

The final test was in the night club, where I danced the night away until midnight and I’m embarrassed to admit that I did indeed cry happy tears. By this point, I had a bad feeling my face would be blotchy and covered with black mascara smudges, but luckily enough, Exagger-Eyes is birthday tears proof! You heard it here first. (I don’t have a picture of me crying though, I thought I’d spare you.)

Although it’s considered a beauty sin to sleep in your makeup, removing it wasn’t the first thing on my mind once I got in, so I woke up the next morning still caked in foundation and mascara, but thankfully it hadn’t transferred to my pillow or left any dry clumps along my lashes.

What To Consider About Charlotte Tilbury’s Exagger-Eyes Mascara

My mum is a mascara connoisseur, so it’s in my blood to be fussy and particular about mascara. While Exagger-Eyes ticked the long-wear box, I wasn’t too fond of how it grouped some of my lashes together. I was itching to separate my lashes with a thin brush for a defined effect like I usually would, but for the sake of this trial I didn’t.

Where to Buy Charlotte Tilbury’s Exagger-Eyes Mascara
