Check your breasts! It’s an important reminder we all need. And, to help spread this message, ghd has teamed up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to launch its 17th annual limited edition pink collection and campaign, called Take Control Now, in support of breast cancer.
From August 2021, each hair tool in the pink collection has been re-designed to feature the message ‘Take Control Now’, which is a reminder for you to check your breasts, and to also remind your loved ones to do the same. The collection includes the ghd platinum+ styler, the ghd gold styler and the ghd helios professional hairdryer, all in a rose pink shade with metallic pink accents.
This nudge from ghd is necessary, given 90 percent of 18 to 35-year-old women only check their breasts a few times a year (instead of once a month!). If you’re unsure how to do this, ghd has created a YouTube tutorial showing you, which includes touching your breasts and looking at them in front of a mirror.
As well as the visual prompt emblazoned on the styling tools, $20 from each pink limited-edition purchase goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. So good! According to the NBCF, nine Australians lose their lives every day to breast cancer, and this much-needed money will help to support the work undertaken by the national body, which doesn’t receive any government funding.
ghd has also partnered with eight muses for the campaign, to encourage and inspire you to check your breasts and to pass this message on others. For ghd muse, Sofi Leota, self-checking wasn’t a part of her routine until she was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 23.
“It definitely never crossed my mind that I was at risk of breast cancer at my age,” Leota said. “I wasn’t active in self-checking at all! I had never self-examined my breasts once nor did I know how to do it or that it was even a thing! I for sure thought it was just something you worried about when you were much older.”
Take this as your cue to conduct your own self-examination today! For more information on the Take Control Now campaign, and to shop the limited edition pink collection, head to the ghd website. You can also directly donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation here.
