Kerry Washington‘s recent hair transformation is a jaw-dropper. The actor posed on the red carpet for Netflix’s “The School For Good and Evil” premiere on Oct. 19 with a brand-new style: a “jellyfish” haircut with blunt bangs. A combination of the bowl cut and mullet, the half-short, half-long style has been making waves these past few months. Washington’s version of the trend was subtle, with a boxy, short bob from the front that blended into a longer section that reached down her neck in the back, resembling the outline of a jellyfish.
This particular cut is “for that human who is not afraid to be seen and make a statement,” Gregory Patterson, celebrity hairstylist and color and styling expert for Sally Beauty, previously told POPSUGAR. He added that it can be customized to suit any face shape, and that’s exactly what Washington did for her take on the trend, which is the work of celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims. Though the actor has worn a variety of short haircuts, including bobs, in the past, her latest may be the most dramatic we’ve seen from the star.
Before the premiere, the actor also shared a fun transformation video on Instagram unveiling her new look, re-creating the iconic “The Princess Diaries” makeover scene that reveals Mia Thermopolis’s “after.” The cool bob stood out against her cat eye and red lip by Carola Gonzalez, as well as her green Ralph Lauren ensemble. Ahead, see Washington’s jellyfish haircut from all angles.
