Lil Yachty Is Launching a Genderless Nail Polish Range and Here’s the Release Date
Men wearing nail polish isn’t exactly a new phenomenon but is one that has gained much attention in recent years thanks to the likes of Harry Styles, Lil Nas X, Post Malone and Machine Gun Kelly, who recently announced his own unisex nail polish brand.
Now, Lil Yachty is putting his love of nail polish into a business as well, recently announcing the launch of CRETE. Taking to Instagram, the rapper revealed that CRETE is his “new nail paint line” that caters to “all genders”. The first drop of the nail polish line is a neutral collection called ‘Negatives 001’ that is due to launch on May 21.
This passion project is close to Lil Yachty’s heart as he uses nail polish as a form of self-expression. In late 2020, Lil Yachty came to the defence of 17-year-old Trevor Wilkinson who was suspended from school for violating the dress code when he returned from Thanksgiving break with painted fingernails.
“If someone wants to express themself in any type of way, as long as it’s not harming anyone or bringing anyone down, they should be allowed to do so. … You shouldn’t be punished or tormented for being you,” Lil Yachty told TMZ of the incident.
At the time, Lil Yachty also revealed details of his polish project, telling the publication that he hoped it would help men feel more comfortable expressing themselves.
“It’s essentially like, it’s unisex but I want it to be more focused on for men to use it, and to be more comfortable in their own skin,” Lil Yachty said. “Because bro, it’s 2020, you know what I’m saying, like it’s about to be 2021 — come on, what are barriers? We still have barriers?”
“If you find painting your nails is a way to show your creative side or it’s an aesthetic that fits you, you shouldn’t be judged for it,” Lil Yachty shared in a press release, as reported by Teen Vogue. “Outside opinion shouldn’t have an effect on your aesthetic and whatever you decide to do and this line is a reflection of that.”
To get your hands on the range, head to the CRETE website to sign up for early access to the limited edition drop.
