Liquid Lipsticks: We Compare Fenty Beauty and Revlon

Every so often I like to flirt with red lipstick. Much like a killer pair of shoes, it can really boost my confidence when I need it as it’s a look that says “I’m here and I mean business”, similar to the red nail theory. Because it isn’t something I wear too often, I tend to stick to what I know and my go-to has been Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Colour in Uncensored (£20) for a while now. Not only because the colour is perfect – it is the truest, most universally flattering red ever – but because I like the applicator. I find bullets tricky to navigate without smudging, unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with the steadiest of hands, yet with an applicator I can line my lips and then fill in the gaps with ease, and it lasts for hours.

Recently my daughter needed a red lipstick for her dance show, as my hand hovered over my favourite Fenty I quickly grabbed Revlon Colorstay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick in Top Gear (£11) instead thinking I wouldn’t mind as much if this didn’t make it back in one piece. As part of my job I’m often sent products to review and Revlon recently sent me the range as it’s donating £2 from every lipstick sold throughout July to cancer charity Look Good Feel Better. It’s a charity close to my heart as I really appreciate its ethos to use beauty to boost the confidence and wellbeing of those with cancer or undergoing treatment.

I applied the Revlon lipstick to my 8-year-old and set her on her way to perform. As she came onto the stage a good few hours later, I couldn’t help but notice her lipstick was still perfectly in place, after appreciating her performance obviously. I was shocked the lipstick didn’t budge throughout the entire two hour performance – not a smudge in sight. Inspired by its staying power the next day I grabbed the nude shade Revlon Colorstay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick in Poster Child (£11) and was shocked about how long it lasted and, more importantly, how it didn’t dry out or feel heavy on my lips. My lips felt hydrated all day and the colour almost renewed itself every time I had anything to eat or drink.

I decided to swap my usual Fenty for Revlon the next time I went on a night out and to be honest I was impressed. Read on to find out more.

Differences Between Fenty Beauty The Stunna Lip Paint and Revlon Colorstay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick

In terms of colour, Fenty is a little bit deeper than Revlon, although I would consider both to be true reds. I would also say the stain from Fenty lasts a bit longer, this is the colour left behind once the liquid lipstick has worn away. Both are pretty waterproof though, but can be removed with a good cleanser without leaving too much residue on the skin.

Which Lasts Longer? Fenty Beauty The Stunna Lip Paint or Revlon Colorstay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick?

I think the staying power is pretty similar, although as previously mentioned I would suggest the stain lasts longer afterwards for Fenty. I found the Revlon to be a touch more hydrating too, so it didn’t dry out at all, making it feel really comfortable on the lips.

What’s Worth Noting About Fenty Beauty The Stunna Lip Paint and Revlon Colorstay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick?

Although the formulas and shade ranges are pretty similar, you can’t underestimate the power of pulling out a Fenty stiletto lipstick from your clutch. There is just something about premium products that give you a confidence boost and this isn’t reflected in the Revlon packaging. However, at 50% of the cost this may be a good alternative as a backup or everyday option and then save your Fenty for a special occasion.

Who Are Fenty Beauty The Stunna Lip Paint and Revlon Colorstay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick Best For?

Anyone that likes a bold lip. These ranges aren’t for the subtle queens, those would be far better suited to lip tints and balms. Liquid lipsticks are highly pigmented, offer full colour pay off and need to be applied with care and time. This isn’t one to apply in the back of the car in the dark. It looks best with a liner underneath and needs precision when applying to ensure you really pull off the style.

Where Can You Buy Fenty Beauty The Stunna Lip Paint and Revlon Colorstay Limitless Matte Liquid Lipstick?

Both Fenty and Revlon are available from Boots and right now there is 20% off all premium beauty ranges.
