Melissa Leong: Beloved culinary wiz, master of the colourful neck-to-angle dress, and would-be lipstick influencer, if we could only find the shades.
MasterChef is all about the food, but it’s also all about the lipsticks, with Leong rotating up to four a show with every change of wardrobe. As an ex-makeup artist, I’ve been asked to ID Leong’s lipsticks countless times by hapless fans of the show – and it would go against everything I stand for as a beauty journalist to keep this information to myself. So, without further ado, here’s what I’ve been able to ID.
What Other Products Does Melissa Use On Set?:
Network 10 MUA Maureen Moriarty uses a combination of products on the set of MasterChef. For a long-wear, high coverage with a skin-like finish, Charlotte Tilbury, Airbrush Flawless Foundation ($65) is used. The lightweight, liquid foundation “sets” – perfect for long days on camera.
Leong is typically seen wearing muted, terracotta or nude blushes, that take a back seat while her array of bold lip colours do the talking. MAC Glow Play blushes in off orange hues “That’s Peachy” and “So Natural” ($55) have the perfect translucent finish to add healthy colour, without competing with a bold lip.
For a cult-classic contour? It’s got to be Nars, Bronzing Powder, in “Laguna” ($57). Nars powder products are excellent, but their Bronzing Powder in the shade “Laguna” is particularly innovative. The shade has subtle, olive green undertones. This means it’s not-to-warm to be used as a contour and suits a multitude of skin tones.
Finally, for highlighter, we have MAC’s peachy-bronze Mineralize Skinfinish Highlighter in “Soft and Gentle,” ($55).
Now, let’s get to the looks (or the lips).
The MAC Lipstick you can guess on sight – Matte Lipstick in “Lady Danger,” ($30) This iconic orange-red was the perfect complement to Leong’s bold yellow, Husk gown.
The perfect winter red, MAC, Matte Lipstick in “Chili” ($30) has rich terracotta tones that perfectly pick up burnt orange florals in Melissa’s S/W/H gown.
Leong matched her lipstick perfectly to her S/W/F wrap dress. Charlotte Tilbury’s Hot Lips in “Amazing Amal” ($55) is the perfect, semi-matte, cool berry-pink for this look.
MAC’s Matte Lipstick in “Russian Red,” ($30) is a deep red with blue undertones – perfect for the Husk violet gown Leong wore in this episode.
Wearing a Leo Lin dress Leong kept things simple with a nude lip and bronzed cheeks. For the this kind of pinky, slightly cool toned nude, Charlotte Tilbury, Lipstick in “Pillow Talk” ($49) is a must.
