I Love Victoria Beckham Kajal Eyeliners, but This Is Half the Price and Just as Good

If there’s one item in a makeup bag that can transform the way you look eyeliner would be it. It may not get the same attention as a contour stick or mascara, but a good eyeliner can be worn alone, add definition, be turned into an eyeshadow, and change the shape of your eyes with clever placement and styling. As there are so many different uses the search for a universally appealing product feels pretty ongoing. From felt pens to gel pots, pencils to liquid, the range of options can feel endless when you’re looking for a new eyeliner, which is why I think my latest find may just ruffle a few feathers.

As someone who spent much of her teenage years lining her waterlines, a pencil will always have a special place in my heart. Growing up I was a steadfast Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Liner in Jet Black (£3) fan. This eyeliner went from my high school blazer pocket, through university, and into my first internship at a glossy magazine. I didn’t think there was going to be an eyeliner that could take its place in my heart or my makeup bag – until I tried Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Eyeliners in 2019.

Considering VB’s kajal eyeliners are 10 times more than my usual eyeliner of choice you’re probably wondering what is so special about them. Well let me tell you, this range of fully pigmented, buttery finish pencils are so easy to apply, stay put all day, and feel like a luxury item rather than my old bargain go-to, which did the job but I didn’t long to use it. I also didn’t deviate away from the standard black shade in my old faithful and would only use it to line the water lines and create the occasional wing. When it comes to the VB pencils, with shimmer, matte and jewel options you can create a variety of looks with just one pencil. Personally I also find pencils are far easier for creating eyeshadow looks, especially if you find powder disappears quickly or tends to move. If I am honest my eyeshadow palettes haven’t seen the light of day for a long time, as I always opt for a pencil look – it takes half the time and is so long-lasting.

So when Hildun Beauty Silk to Set Kajal Liner in Chocolate ended up in my makeup bag by accident and I used it instead of my regular Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner in Cinnammon, I was shook. It felt the same on the skin, the finish was similar on my eyes (albeit chocolate is matte and cinnamon has a shimmer) and after a day of wear it lasted the same amount of time. I was intrigued and needed to look into it the differences between the Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner (£30) and the Hildun Beauty Silk to Set Kajal Liner (£16). Keep reading to find out what I uncovered.

Differences Between Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal and Hildun Beauty Silk to Set Kajal Liner

About 10 shades. Yes unfortunately Hildun Beauty currently only offers six different shades in comparison to VB’s 16. It has four matte and two with a slight shimmer, so there is not as much variety if you prefer to use an eyeliner or to create statement look using an eyeliner pencil. There is the cost factor – Hildun Beauty is roughly half the price of the VB pencils, however it must be noted the pencil doesn’t come with an applicator unlike the VB range, where one is included. Most VB options also come with a handy sharpener. I tend to use the applicator and sharpener regularly and think you would need to purchase separate items if you were planning on purchasing the Hildun pencils, so it is worth keeping this in mind.

Which Lasts Longer? Victoria Beckham Satin Kaja linerl or Hildun Beauty Silk to Set Kajal Liner?

This is a tough one to answer as I think both lasted slightly differently. I found the Hildun Beauty liner could keep up with the VB version in the upper and lower water lines, as a contact lens wearer this is something I need to reapply after a few hours anyway. However, I did find the VB just pipped the other to the post worn as an eyeshadow. There was also slightly less movement, but nothing too noticeable as both stayed in place pretty much all evening.

What’s Worth Noting About Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal and Hildun Beauty Silk to Set Kajal Liner?

Beauty is such a personal thing and for some people they will just want an eyeliner to do the job, the packaging or purchasing journey is not important. However, for others, being able to buy into a designer brand, no less a celebrity fashion brand owned by a Spice Girl, the whole experience feels different. The packaging it arrives in, the name along the pencil, and the feeling that you are applying the same product as VB herself has its pros which Hildun simply can’t compete with.

Who Are Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal and Hildun Beauty Silk to Set Kajal Liner Suitable For?

Anyone who loves a highly pigmented, smooth eyeliner pencil will love both of these options. However, if you prefer a pared back, subtle eyeliner then these are not for you. The eyeliner has a strong finish, which will add lots of definition to you eyes. For those looking for a crisp wing eyeliner then this type of eyeliner isn’t right, you would be far better with a liquid or felt tip option.

Where Can You Buy Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal and Hildun Beauty Silk to Set Kajal Liner?
