Seasonal Beauty Swaps You Should Make, According to Makeup Pro Aimee Connolly

There’s a chill in the air, your tan is sadly fading away and you’re already itching to blast some Christmas tunes (or maybe that’s just me). Autumn is here and winter is just around the corner and I’m sure as a UK resident who’s well accustomed to the seasonal weather, you know it’s time to wrap up. Perhaps you’ve already started shopping for your knits or have packed away your summer tops and beach clothes, swapping them out for woolly jumpers and cosy tracksuits.

And in the same way, your beauty routine could do with some winter swaps, as it’s less likely that your gel moisturiser will keep your skin as hydrated in the colder months as it has done for June through to August. Don’t get me wrong, an SPF is a year round must-have, but some products in your beauty bag can be replaced with more winter-friendly options, that support your skin barrier just as well and keep you looking fabulous, even when it’s bloody freezing.

To help us to know exactly which beauty bits to swap out, we asked the pro, makeup artist and founder of Sculpted by Aimee, Aimee Connolly. During a chat with PS UK, she shared which beauty favourites you should be swapping out this season.

Gel Moisturiser for Nourishing Moisturiser

“In this season, we need extra hydration and we want to protect the skin with ceramides,” says Connolly. “I am biassed but I recommend our Sculpted By Aimee CloudCream Nourishing Ceramide Moisturiser (£30), it is the bomb.com.”

In case you weren’t aware, ceramides make up 50% of the skin’s overall composition and according to dermatologist Dr. Sherry Ingraham “they work as the cement to keep the skin’s building blocks together, lock in hydration, and promote healthy moisture barrier function.” Basically, in a moisturiser, ceramides are your best friend.

Skin Tint for Medium Coverage Foundation

The battle between skin tints and foundations has been going on for years, but who said they can’t reside in your beauty bag together in harmony? Connolly explains that swapping your summer skin tint for a medium coverage option can be a good choice in the colder months, but it’s absolutely not the end of the skin tint era.

“I love a skin tint and not saying it’s going anywhere, but you might want to add a little bit more of a medium coverage to see us through these winter months. The Sculpted By Aimee Second Skin Dewy Foundation (£25) is buildable and lightweight but you’ll get that extra coverage.”

Pink Tones to Orange Tones

Although red blush is having its moment and we all love a pinky hue on our cheeks, Connolly believes it’s time to let the peach, orange shades have some time in the spotlight. “This is just my colour preference, but I love the transitional move into cinnamon, burnt orange, peach shades for the colder months,” she tells us. “So I might be leaving the pops of pink for summer and heading into more of a peach colour palette for the winter.”

Sculpted By Aimee is now available in Selfridges. You can purchase your favourites from the brand in store or online at selfridges.com
