Yesterday, actress and author Selma Blair was announced as Guide Beauty‘s Chief Creative Officer. Blair will be collaborating with the brand on a collection of beauty products, as well as joining their leadership team.
Guide Beauty is an artistry brand developed for people with all levels of ability. Their products are designed to make makeup easier to apply for everyone, but particularly for those who find makeup application tricky because of tremors, poor eyesight, or balance issues associated with many conditions, as well as medications used to treat chronic illnesses.
Guide Beauty was founded by makeup artist and beauty industry veteran Terri Bryant and launched in 2020. Bryant worked for brands like Dior and Stila and across fashion, film and television before developing Parkinson’s. She began finding makeup application increasingly difficult due to balance issues and tremors.
With Guide Beauty, Bryant brought her wealth of artistry knowledge, and the difficulties posed by conditions like Parkinson’s, to the creation of the Guide Beauty range.
The brand contains products like the Lash Wrap Mascara, ($26) and Brow Moment ($26) brow gel — both of which are designed with the brand’s patented “guide rings” that users can place their fingers in to steady their hands.
Guide Beauty went viral earlier this year when actress Mandy Moore used their Guide Eyeliner Duo ($50), which comes with an ergonomically designed applicator, showing appetite from the broader community for high-quality, easy-to-apply beauty products.
Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, and she’s been candid about the impacts it’s had on her life. In her critically acclaimed autobiography Mean Baby: A Memoir About Growing Up, Blair wrote about her struggles with depression and addiction, and the way her undiagnosed condition — which was attributed to “anxiety” by doctors — fed into both.
She is a passionate advocate for MS awareness and has openly shared her struggles. In a recent documentary Introducing, Selma Blair the actor shared her struggles with things like climbing the stairs.
Blair’s collection will include several brushes with “guide rings” and an easy-open paper eyeshadow palette.
