How This Skin Therapist Has Helped Thousands by Focusing on One Skin Type

Kayla Houlihan tapped into her knowledge as a results-focused skin therapist, as well as personal experience with sensitive skin to create Tribe Skincare, now a multi-million-dollar business. Sacrificed s $40 thousand dollar house deposit, Houlihan closed a gap she saw in the skincare market and solved a problem for the common, yet overlooked skin type.
Since 2017, Houlihan’s skincare products have received thousands of positive reviews from customers suffering from breakouts, eczema and facial redness, all of which she had experienced firsthand. With the brand, she channelled those experiences into creating effective serums, cleansers, and now, makeup.
“The range combines the benefits of natural, anti-inflammatory ingredients that are super gentle on sensitive skin, with ‘active’ ingredients that change your skin to achieve salon-quality results,” she says.
And now with the business turning over high yearly profits again and again throughout its five-year lifespan, it no longer needs to engage paid advertising to build hype around its releases. But that hasn’t stopped Houlihan from regularly going viral on the Tribe Skincare TikTok account. She often posts hacks for saving when buying Tribe products, business fails and throwing in surprises with customers’ repeat orders.

Putting a face behind the brand and ultimately, humanising it has made all the difference for its sales. Especially before the launch of its Brightening Vitamin C Serum ($68) earlier this year, which racked up a waiting list of over 50 thousand hopeful customers.
Tribe’s award-winning $65 Clearing Anti-Breakout Serum (available for pre-order now) promises acne-dissolving results in less than four weeks. And with some of us here at POPSUGAR Australia suffering from sporadic breakouts and sensitive skin (aka me), we’re definitely going to have to investigate the hype. It might be worth it considering its ingredients like white willow bark and licorice root extract work together to rid of impurities, simultaneously soothing any redness and flare-ups.
Whether you’re at the start of your skincare journey or simply looking to spice things up in your routine, Tribe Skincare’s got you covered. Its cost-effective trial kits provide miniature-sized products with maximized results that are perfect for a red-hot go. Or a trip across the world.
