Before I start this review I’m going to put it out there – at-home wax strips and I are not friends. Over the years I have tried hundreds, and call it bad technique or poor quality strips but I am yet to be satisfied with the results. I also need to be honest although once an avid waxer (I had a bikini wax booked in like clockwork every three weeks for about four years) I haven’t waxed for pushing eight years. After having children, I decided shaving was far easier and the quality of razors had improved so much that I could still achieve the same smooth results as a professional finish for far less effort and cost. I will also admit that one of the best things about being pregnant with a boy was that my hair almost stopped growing and even six years later I have a quarter of the amount of hair than I had before.
That being said when Estrid The Vegan Bikini & Underarm Wax Kit (£5) landed on my desk I couldn’t resist. I am a BIG fan of the Estrid razor, the quality is excellent, I love the subscription model as it suits my busy life and I have also tried a few of the brand’s body products which I have also found to be a very high standard for the price.
I wasn’t ready to tackle my bikini line, I still have flashbacks of a 1.15 hour bikini wax using at home strips which left me so sore I felt like I had been slapped down there with a hot poker – 100% do not recommend. However, as it’s sweater season I decided I would let my underarm hair grow and then give this area a go – all in the name of research to see if I I could be convinced to make the switch again and give up my razor.
Read on to find out my thoughts – and trigger warning I have included a video of the wax itself so if you have weak disposition be warned.
About Estrid The Vegan Bikini & Underarm Wax Kit
What I Like About Estrid The Vegan Bikini & Underarm Wax Kit
Ok so first things first, the packing is chic and simple. It also shows you exactly what’s inside the box on the outside of the box which I find makes things even easier. The wax strips designed for this area are small, yet still covered my entire armpit in one go so you don’t need to use multiple wax strips per area. This has always been my issue before and what I have found has resulted in the sore skin, as you feel like you need to go over and over to get all the hair.
Once I got the knack of it I was able to remove pretty much all the hair in one go. I will not say it was painless, it is still waxing, but because I only did it twice per armpit my skin was only sore for a few seconds afterwards.
I liked how effective the strip was in removing the hair. This was the big surprise for me as I was expecting to need to use the entire pack and I still have four left, plus one wipe, which I could use next time, making this exceptionally good value.
How to Use the Estrid The Vegan Bikini & Underarm Wax Kit
The key is to smooth on the strip the direction of the hair and then pull in one hard movement to get it off. I found by really stretching my arm behind my head it made my skin taut enough to really grab the hair. The wipes were really soothing afterwards and felt like an instant relief after the waxing. I also noticed that my armpits were only red for a few minutes after the wax and then quickly returned to normal.
What to Consider Before Buying Estrid The Vegan Bikini & Underarm Wax Kit
This is a wax kit, it is not some beauty miracle that you will stick on your body and poof the hair will disappear. There is no doubt that waxing hurts, I don’t mind the pain, but it is definitely there and if this is something you aren’t keen on then I would suggest this hair removal isn’t for you.
I will have to see how long the hair is gone, however everyone’s hair grows differently, depending on age and hormones, so I don’t think this will be representative of the results for everyone and should only be used as a guide anyway.
