I’m a Beauty Writer — This Is What’s in My Cart at the Sephora Afterpay Day Sale
As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. POPSUGAR has affiliate and advertising partnerships so we get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase.
Afterpay Day is pretty exciting for beauty lovers – this beauty writer included. While there are many deals to be nabbed on beauty and fitness (you can check our comprehensive list here), there is nothing quite like a Sephora sale for restocking your favourite beauty products.
I’ve highlighted the top items in my cart – all of them well-loved restocks (+ one new addition), all of them 20% off RRP in the Afterpay Day sale.
A Beauty Writer’s Sephora Wishlist:
- Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer, RRP: $44.00
Tarte Shape launched at the height of the contour craze and became a smash hit with YouTubers everywhere. It’s still one of my favourite concealers. As an ex-makeup artist who has tried every concealer on the market, I always prefer to have a full coverage matte concealer on hand.
I’m a fan of Lisa Eldridge’s spot-concealing technique – a full-coverage matte product will allow you to target blemishes and discolouration, while applying less product to the face overall, giving a more natural finish. Plus, a full-coverage formula can always be diluted. I like to mix Shape Tape with my Charlotte Tilbury, Hollywood Flawless Filter ($65.00) for an under-eye brightener that doesn’t sacrifice coverage.
2. It Cosmetics, Your Skin But Better CC+, SPF50, RRP $65.00
This product does what it says on the tin (or the tube). I’ve been through four of these bad boys since 2016. Why? Quite simply, it’s just damn easy to use. On good skin days, a grain of rice sized pump will spread thinly, providing a veil of smoothing coverage just where I need it. On … less great skin days, a pea-sized amount can provide close to full coverage while still looking like skin. Of course, you should never rely on foundation for your SPF (you will never use enough of it to receive full spectrum coverage), which brings me to my next product!
3. Ultra Violette, Supreme Screen, SPF 50, RRP: $49.00
Ultra Violette has a suite of iconic sunscreen products, and I’m a huge fan of their Queen Screen Luminising Sun Serum, SPF50, (RRP: $49.00) for when I want to up my glow, or my skin is feeling super dry.
However, Supreme Screen is the workhorse of their lineup. With a velvet texture, it’s not too oily, not too dry and doesn’t change the finish of my complexion products. Unlike Queen Screen, Supreme comes in a soft plastic tube, making it easier to throw in your handbag on the go. The brand also increased Supreme sizing to 75ml, so you receive more SPF for your buck.
4. Makeup by Mario, Master Mattes Palette, RRP: $74.00
Isn’t there always one shadow in a palette that you hit pan on way before the others? For me, it’s always the matte. That’s why Makeup by Mario’s (yes, he of Kim Kardashian fame) Master Mattes Palette is my one non-repurchase. This palette has been on my mind since a makeup artist friend used it on me a few weeks ago.
These mattes have a sheer but buildable formula – while pigment is often a top criteria when talking eyeshadows, I like mattes that are buildable rather than concentrated. A highly pigmented matte shadow is more challenging to work with — you’re likely to end up with a deep chocolate smokey eye on a Monday morning when all you wanted was a wash of colour. With the return to the office in full swing, I look forward to having all my early-morning mattes in one place.
5. Caudalie Beauty Elixir, 100ml, RRP: $74.00
Isn’t this… a very expensive bottle of water? No. Caudalie Beauty Elixir is my 3 pm hero product and nectar-of-the-gods level good. The magic concoction combines Rosewater and grape extract with bitter orange, rosemary, mint, and peppermint oils to provide a refreshing blast of moisture with a serious zing. As someone who suffers from mid-afternoon slumps, having this potion by my desk is non-negotiable. It’s also perfect for nixing office air conditioning dehydration and will refresh your makeup in a second. A perfect pick me up!
