Teaming up with a stranger named Eric (Joseph Quinn) and her adorable cat Frodo, she navigates a city in chaos, with burning buildings, flooded subways, and danger at every corner.
Day One keeps the franchise’s terrifying rules intact — if they hear you, they will hunt you. Silence is survival. But this time, it’s in the bustling, noisy heart of New York. Can you imagine? It’s the same world, same terrifying creatures, but a whole new level of intensity.

Why New York City?
John Krasinski, who produced the film, pondered these questions, leading him to imagine the chaos such an invasion would unleash in a bustling metropolis like New York City.
“I wanted to take a place we all know and put it in extraordinary circumstances,” Krasinski explained in a press release. “New York City, whether you’ve been there or not, whether you like it or not, is instantly familiar. And in a world where murderous creatures can appear at any time, from any place they detect a noise, New York is not the best place to be.”

Since the film is set long before the events of the first two movies, Lupita Nyong’o takes the lead, joined by actors Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, and a very cute cat named Schnitzel.

Verdict?
Watching this film ahead of its release, I can honestly say it’s the best one yet, if not my favourite. A Quiet Place: Day One cranks up the intensity with more aliens and the high stakes of a big city under siege. Finally, we get to see the terrifying creatures up close and personal, and the film reveals how the apocalypse began.
At its heart, it’s an emotional journey of two lost people finding themselves. The dynamic between Samira and Eric, two strangers thrown together by chaos, is both compelling and heartfelt. Samira’s backstory will tug at your heartstrings, adding so much depth to the already intense storyline.
And let’s not forget Frodo the cat, who totally steals the show. Frodo’s antics and resilience bring unexpected moments of levity and heart, making the tension even more palpable. (No spoilers on whether Frodo survives — you’ll have to watch and find out!)
This film is a rollercoaster of emotions. You’ll be on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, hoping no one makes a sound. Not to mention, Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn deliver standout performances. I mean, they could’ve fooled me that the world was actually ending.
