We’ve been counting down the days till the premiere of Love Island Australia, and after news just broke of a special someone joining the show, October 31st couldn’t come soon enough.
Host Sophie Monk has finally confirmed the rumours: Al Perkins from Married At First Sight will be entering the villa this year.
To recap, there’s been a lot of speculation around Al appearing on the show after he was papped in Mallorca, Spain, where the show is currently filming.
Sophie did say recently that a “famous groom” was joining the cast, but kept tight-lipped about who it was… until now.
Speaking to Yahoo! Lifestyle, Sophie said getting Al on board was the “perfect” decision.
“I was watching him on MAFS and straightaway when I saw him I thought, ‘Why is he not on Love Island?’ because he had never had a girlfriend when he got married,” she said. “So I think it’s really good for him.”
Al, whose loveable personality made him a fan favourite on this year’s season of MAFS, didn’t let the fame get to his head — something Sophie can vouch for.
“He’s just a very sweet, innocent guy. He hasn’t got a bad bone in his body,” she admitted.
She did say however, that he can “sometimes speak without thinking”, which makes for some hilarious moments.
Love Island Australia premieres on October 31, exclusively on 9Now.
