“Aquaman” actor Amber Heard returned to the red carpet one year after her and ex-husband Johnny Depp‘s defamation trial came to an end. On June 23, Heard promoted her upcoming film “In the Fire” at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy.

Heard was all smiles as she walked the red carpet (which was technically teal) wearing a long, black gown that was accentuated with a cape at the shoulders. The actor wore her blond hair down and in curly ringlets. In photos from the event, Heard can be seen laughing with her costars, including Luca Calvani and Eduardo Noriega, and with the movie’s director, Conor Allyn. She also appeared in photos with William “Billy” Baldwin, who attended the festival to promote his animated feature “Billie’s Magic World” and stopped to sign autographs for fans.

Since the trial ended in June 2022, Heard had largely stepped out of the spotlight. A jury ruled the “London Fields” star was liable for defaming Depp with a 2018 Washington Post op-ed about domestic abuse. Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10 million, but she ended up countersuing him for $100 million. A jury also ordered Depp to pay Heard $2 million due to his lawyer claiming she has perpetuated a “hoax.”

Although they both appealed the decisions of the jury, Depp and Heard ultimately settled their case in December of last year. Heard agreed to pay Depp $1 million, which he reportedly plans on splitting among five charities. For his part, Depp returned to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in May to promote “Jeanne du Barry.”

In addition to promoting “In the Fire,” which doesn’t have a wide release date just yet, Heard is also set to appear in “Aquaman 2.” The DC film is set to premiere in theaters this December. Both movies were filmed prior to the trial.
