2023’s “Australian Idol” Top 24 week was fierce. With only 12 spots available for contestants to move on to the next round, the eight performers of the night made sure to show up, and show out.
Unfortunately, half of the 24 hopefuls had their “Idol” journey cut short. Judges Meghan Trainor, Harry Connick Jnr, Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands had a tough job deciding who to eliminate, given the high level of talent this season.
Now, the destinies of the Top 12 will be decided by audience voting. Each of them is chasing after the grand prize of a Sony recording contract and $100,000 in prize money. With so much at stake, the contestants will have to give it their all to grab voters’ attention.
Let’s take a closer look at the “Australian Idol” Top 12 contestants.
Amali Dimond, 16 (NSW)
Inspired by previous “Idol” stars Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian, 16-year-old Amali Dimond has always felt like she was born to entertain. Trading in her job at an ice cream store for a chance at fame, she is ready to show the world what she’s got.
Angelina Curtis, 15 (WA)
Angelina Curtis is just 15-years-old and one of the youngest contestants in the “Australian Idol” Top 12. Since she could walk, she’s been playing the piano. And at the age of nine, she wrote her first song. With her talent and dedication, she is ready to take her music worldwide.
Anya Hynnien, 19 (VIC)
Anya Hynnien, 19, wants to see her name in lights. She’s already had the opportunity to perform in small-town venues with the help of her mum. But when she wants to kick it up a notch, she turns to her stepfather, Bernard, for guidance and tips. Now, she hopes to follow in his footsteps. Hynnien seems to be on the right track — she was given “Australian Idol” 2023’s first touchdown by Amy Shark.
Ben Sheehy, 24 (QLD)
24-year-old Ben Sheehy stumbled upon his musical talent by accident when he auditioned for a school production. But now, he’s determined to share his unique voice with Australia. With his guitar skills and raw talent, he’s sure to leave a lasting impression on audiences.
Harry Hayden, 18 (VIC)
While most Year 12 students are worried about their HSC exams, 18-year-old Harry Hayden has made his way to the “Idol” Top 12. The expressive teen channels his emotions into music and performance. With the versatility of his voice, his talent could take him anywhere.
Jasey Fox, 25 (NSW)
25-year-old, Jasey Fox is no stranger to getting on stage and giving it his all. He grew up listening to trendsetters like Snoop Dogg and Freddie Mercury to absorb their style and prowess “in some Frankenstein-like way,” as Fox described it in a press statement.
Josh Hannan, 20 (VIC)
Outside of “Australian Idol”, 20-year-old Josh Hannan is a rose farmer while continuing his studies in psychology. But when he’s on stage, he blows the audience away. Singing helps him tap into his emotions. His personal experiences inspire him when he performs.
Maya Weiss, 28 (VIC)
You can call Maya Weiss, Ms Range! Because she this yoga teacher is also a DJ. The 28-year-old been a certified “Australian Idol” fan since she was young and always saw herself performing on the “Idol” stage.
Noora H, 27 (NSW)
Noora H, 27, is out to achieve one thing from her “Australian Idol” experience. And that is to bring more diversity into the music industry. She believes she has the looks to create a difference.
Phoebe Stewart, 15 (NSW)
Despite her hearing difficulties, Phoebe Stewart continues to connect with her audience through her talent. As another one of the youngest contestants in the “Australian Idol” Top 12, she’s already proven that age is just a number when it comes to showcasing musical ability. This 15-year-old from WA takes the stage to bring happiness to her listeners.
Royston Sagigi-Baira, 23 (QLD)
Growing up in similar communities, this 23-year-old youth worker passionately engages with young indigenous groups in Far North Queensland. With a soulful voice and a heart full of passion, Royston Sagigi-Baira hopes to inspire and uplift others through his music.
Sash Seabourne, 25 (WA)
Sash Seabourne is representing Western Australia in the Australian Idol Top 12. He was just a teenager when he first started singing and now at 25, he’s been performing ever since. Sash has a unique voice that is filled with emotion, and he hopes to connect with his fans through his music.
