It’s true, folks: another Batman reboot is coming. After Warner Bros. announced that 2022’s The Batman wouldn’t include leading man Ben Affleck, we couldn’t wait to find out who would take up the cowl and defend Gotham City. We finally got our answer when Robert Pattinson officially signed on as the new Bruce Wayne for Matt Reeves’s noir-esque action film, joining a few other famous faces.
Although Jonah Hill was initially rumored to be joining the cast as a villain, talks with the studio fell through. The Batman then found a major comic foe for the Dark Knight to take on in the form of the Riddler, who will be portrayed by Paul Dano. Alfred has previously been portrayed in film by Michael Caine in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Michael Gough in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman film series, and Jeremy Irons in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

On Nov. 22, 2019, Reeves announced via Twitter that Turturro would take on the role of major underworld crime boss Carmine Falcone. Falcone is a foe of Batman but a friend of the Wayne family and was previously seen on Gotham.

On Dec. 6, 2019, Reeves announced on Twitter that Sarsgaard had been added to the cast. Sarsgaard plays Gotham DA Gil Colson, who is an entirely original character for The Batman.
