We’re days away from the premiere of Beauty and the Geek, and it seems one of the contestants has already been hit with their first major scandal.
One of the beauties from the upcoming season has been forced to address a drunk driving arrest from 2021 after the information surrounding the charges became public.
Flight attendant Emily McCarthy was leaving a pub in the Sutherland Shire on November 7 when she was pulled over.
According to the St George Shire Standard, officers noticed McCarthy’s car make a sharp turn off a main road. It was then that the marked police car followed her vehicle and pulled her over for a roadside breath test.
“The accused stated she had recently finished an alcoholic beverage at the Gymea Hotel 20 minutes prior to being stopped by police,” police state.
It was revealed that McCarthy was four times over the legal limit, with a result of 0.210.
The reality TV contestant was arrested and taken to Kogarah police station, where she undertook a breath analysis that returned a result of 0.168 over an hour after she was pulled over.
She was charged with high-range drunk driving, had her licence revoked and was fined $500 in court after pleading guilty to the offence.
She was then disqualified from driving for a further six months and will be forced to drive on an interlock licence for the next two years, which means her car will not start unless her blood alcohol limit is zero.
Opening up about the incident, McCarthy issued a statement through a Nine publicist: “I deeply regret my decision and take full responsibility for my actions.
“I accepted the court outcome and this has been a huge learning for me and something I will never do again.”
Beauty and the Geek is known to be a wholesome show, so the scandal comes as a surprise.
