Flower
Starring Zoey Deutch, this dramedy tells the story of Erica, a rebellious 17-year-old who develops an unexpected friendship with her mom’s boyfriend’s son, Luke, who recently got out of rehab. She welcomes Luke into her crew, and he reluctantly joins her scheme to expose a teacher’s dark secret.
Beach Rats
Beach Rats tells the story of Frankie, a troubled teen living in Brooklyn and spending his summer having fun with friends, flirting with girls, and chatting with older men online. His double life reaches a fever pitch when he starts visiting a nearby cruising beach for hookups while simultaneously starting a relationship with a woman, and you could say that things get just a little bit complicated.
F the Prom
In this flick, two former BFFs – one of who ditched the other when she became popular – are reunited after the queen bee is dumped by her boyfriend. Feeling embittered and lonely, Maddy reaches out to her old friend, and she and Cole hatch a plan to destroy prom.
Skate Kitchen
This drama follows the story of 18-year-old Camille, a shy skateboarder who joins a female skating collective in NYC (despite promising her mom she wouldn’t skate anymore following an injury). Of course, it isn’t long before her double life catches up to her.
Heathers
This ’80s cult classic is your typical high school mean-girl flick – well, except for the fact that new student J.D. is slowly killing off the girls he doesn’t like. With Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Kim Walker, and Shannen Doherty, this movie not only delivers the best cast, but some of the best one-liners of all time.
Miss Stevens
If a 2016 coming-of-age film centered around a teacher (American Horror Story queen Lily Rabe) doesn’t exactly pique your interests, what if I told you one of her students was played by Timothée Chalamet? Anthony Quintal and Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart also star in this dramedy, which has a shockingly high Rotten Tomatoes score for a film that went largely under the radar upon its release.
Big Time Adolescence
This coming-of-age comedy revolves around the unlikely friendship between a no-nonsense teen named Mo (played by Tall Girl‘s Griffin Gluck) and a drug-dealing college dropout named Zeke (played by Pete Davidson). Though Mo initially looks to Zeke as a mentor, Zeke’s influence eventually wreaks havoc on Mo’s life.
Tragedy Girls
Starring Alexandra Shipp (aka Storm fron X-Men) and Brianna Hildebrand from Trinkets, this dark comedy follows two high school seniors who run a true-crime blog together and are eager to get more followers. After capturing a crazed serial killer, the teens come up with the perfect way to boost their site’s traffic: continue the killer’s murder spree themselves.
Footloose
This 2011 remake tells the story of Ren, a teen raised in the city who experiences a major culture shock after moving to a small town where dancing and loud music are banned. Hulu also has the 1984 original available to stream.
I Kill Giants
Based on Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura’s graphic novel of the same name, this drama revolves around a fantasy-loving outcast who escapes her troubled home life by imagining she is a skilled giant slayer. However, the longer she inhabits her fantasy world, the harder it is for her to distinguish fantasy from reality.
Sex Drive
Based on the YA novel All the Way by Andy Behrens, this sex comedy follows a recent high school grad as he takes a cross-country trip in order to meet up with a girl he met online. As you can probably imagine, his quest to lose his virginity includes just a few roadblocks along the way.
Teen Spirit
Starring Elle Fanning, Teen Spirit revolves around a shy teen with a passion for singing and dreams of escaping her small town to become a pop star. With the help of an unexpected mentor, Violet enters a singing competition, which puts her drive and talent to the test.
Where Hands Touch
Set in Nazi Germany, this war drama stars Amandla Stenberg as Leyna, a biracial teen who falls in love with a member of the Hitler Youth, who also happens to be the son of a high-ranking SS officer. To say things are challenging for these star-crossed lovers would be an understatement.
Booksmart
Olivia Wilde‘s directorial debut tells the story of two high-school overachievers who accomplish everything they hoped for academically, but find themselves lacking when it comes to actual life experience. They hope that a wild night might just compensate for four years of high school debauchery, and naturally, hilarity ensues.
Henry Gamble's Birthday Party
This movie revolves around the 17th birthday of the titular Henry Gamble, an active member of a local church youth group who’s secretly gay. During the course of his birthday party, the preacher’s son wrestles with his sexuality and faith, realizing that he can’t hide the truth about himself for much longer.
Freak Show
Alex Lawther from The End of the F***ing World stars in this dramedy as Billy, a gender nonconforming teen who finds himself feeling out of place at his conservative new high school. However, rather than let bullies intimidate him, Billy decides to run for homecoming queen.
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
In this ’80s rom-com, an army brat named Janey (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) befriends a free-spirited teen at her latest school, who encourages Janey to rebel for the first time in her life. At her new friend’s urging, Janey enters a TV dance competition against her strict colonel father’s wishes.
Romeo & Juliet
In this remake of William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld star as the titular Romeo and Juliet, two teens from rival families who fall in love in 15th-century Verona, Italy. Did we need another remake of this one? Probably not. Are we mad about it? No way.
Anna and the Apocalypse
In this Christmas zombie musical comedy, a soon-to-be high school grad from Scotland decides she wants to travel for a year before attending college, much to her widower dad’s chagrin. Little does she know that a zombie apocalypse is around the corner, and she and her friends must rely on one another to stay alive.
Assassination Nation
In this dark comedy, an anonymous hacker starts revealing personal messages and pictures to their entire town, and those exposed secrets lead to violence in the community. High school senior Lily and her three BFFs then find themselves pursued by an angry mob after it’s discovered that the source of the hacks somehow came from Lily’s IP address.
Status Update
Ross Lynch from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars in this fantasy comedy as Kyle, an uncool high schooler who discovers an app that can make his social media status updates turn into a reality. The magical app then allows him to wish his way up the social ladder – but he eventually learns to be careful what he wishes for.

In this psychological drama, a beautiful-yet-unstable teen outcast named Abigail strikes up a taboo romance with her substitute drama teacher after being cast as the lead in the school play. However, the girl Abigail beat out for the role is determined to make the newly confident Abigail pay.
Super 8
Set in 1979 Ohio, this sci-fi thriller revolves around a group of young teens (including Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney) as they attempt to make a homemade zombie movie. While filming, they happen to witness a horrifying train derailment, which is soon followed by a string of mysterious disappearances and inexplicable events.
First Girl I Loved
In this romantic drama, a nerdy yearbook editor named Anne (played by Dylan Gelula, aka Xan from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) finds herself falling for the star of the softball team, Sasha (who’s played by Brianna Hildebrand). Anne’s crush becomes even more complicated after she confesses her growing attraction to Sasha to her best friend Clifton, only for Anne to learn that Clifton is in love with her.
Adam
Based on the novel of the same name by Ariel Schrag, this indie comedy tells the story of the titular Adam, a timid high schooler who spends the summer before his senior year of high school in Brooklyn with his cool older sister, who’s part of the LGBTQ activist scene. While accompanying his sister to rallies and bars, he falls for a beautiful new woman who likes him back – but also incorrectly assumes Adam is trans.
