She’s been the talk of the season, but tonight, Big Brother told Sam Manovski that it was time to go.
After spending the season loved up in her Big Brother relationship with Drew Anthony, we had to know: are the couple still together? Were they able to make it work IRL?
As it turns out, the answer is no.
Speaking to POPSUGAR Australia over the phone, Sam confirmed the couple are officially dunzo, saying: “We’re not together, no”.
“We dated for about a month after Drew got out of the house, but we quickly learned that we’re very different people and we have different lifestyle choices,” Sam said, adding that with the distance — he lives in Melbourne, she lives in Queensland — “it was never really going to work out” for them.
Sam said that while the pair hit it off in the house, they were just getting to “see one version of each other” in that very unreal scenario and once they were out of the house, that all changed.
“We got to see a bit more of an authentic version outside the house, I think,” she mused.
Now, the pair don’t speak, and according to Sam, they “don’t really have a lot to say to one another because [they] don’t have that much in common outside the show”.
Calling herself “a sucker for love”, before quickly clarifying that she was never in love with Drew, Sam said that the silver lining in all of this has been that it’s given her a new perspective to take into her work and personal life.
“This is my job, this is what I do for a living, I help people in relationships,” said the intimacy coach. “I’m all about relating, I’m all about growing from those experiences, and I have grown so much from this experience with Drew.”
Noting that Drew reminded her “of men [she] dated in [her] 20s”, she called her brief relationship “a nice, gentle little reminder” of how men can be.
“The man I’m dating now is absolutely amazing, and I wonder, would I be as appreciative of him if I hadn’t gone through that experience this recently?” she said. “It also gives me insight into what my clients are going through because this is still happening for a lot of people.”
Sam went on to say that she doesn’t “feel there are many people out there that choose to relate to one another with respect and honesty and truth”, adding: “Drew just reminded me of what a lot of women have to go through”.
