Blake Lively raved about husband Ryan Reynolds as he received the 36th American Cinematheque Award on Nov. 17. At the ceremony, held at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Lively honored her husband with a moving speech about his dedication to movies and to their growing family. The couple have three daughters – James, 7, Inez, 6, and Betty, 3 – and Lively is currently pregnant with their fourth child.
Lively credited Reynolds’s home country of Canada for helping instill him with “stunning qualities” – “heart, his philanthropy, his humor, his integrity, his unmatched work ethic” – per videos of her speech shared by The Hollywood Reporter. “Giving back to the country that gave him his life is critical to who he is as a person,” she added.
“It was essential to keeping him grounded, to keeping him sane, to keeping him him,” the “Gossip Girl” actor said. “And now I am his home and our girls are his home. And just like that 19-year-old boy, he races home. Whether it’s from across the globe or a meeting across the street, he is hard-wired to get home. If he came home from set not in his wardrobe, we would be very concerned. Soaked in mud, fake blood, real blood, prosthetic scars, superhero suits, tap shoes, or clown makeup, daddy always comes home.”
The couple married in 2012. Lively revealed her latest pregnancy at an event in September, and Reynolds told Jimmy Fallon earlier this month that he hopes they have another girl. “We never find out. We always wait until they come down the chute,” he said. “I’m kind of hoping for a girl ’cause I know . . . I’m a bit of a hen myself. I know girls, I’m a girl dad, I’m used to that, I’m ready for that.” Reynolds also joked, “If history has taught us anything, [it’s that] if I have a son, one day my life will be taken by that son.”
Reynolds’s new Christmas movie “Spirited,” also starring Will Ferrell, premiered in theaters on Nov. 11 and arrived on Apple TV+ a week later. The actor is now gearing up for his entry into the MCU with “Deadpool 3.”
