It’s a real Hollywood love story, isn’t it? Two megastars crossing paths on a movie set and falling in love feels meta, but in the case of Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz, it’s exactly what happened when filming Blink Twice. Marking Kravitz’s directorial debut, this hyper-suspenseful thriller is finally set to be unleashed in cinemas.

Zoë Kravitz not only directed Blink Twice, but she also co-wrote its screenplay with E.T. Feigenbaum. We’re seeing films directed by women completely dominate the zeitgeist year after year, and Blink Twice looks promising to do the same.

But, before Blink Twice hits cinemas on August 22, get to know more about the film that already has everyone talking — and how it’s showing different sides of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

So Kravitz and Tatum connected first when she sent over the script in 2021, and their relationship has been history since. Considering the script sparked an IRL love story, it’s safe to assume that the plot and screenplay are electrifying to say the least.

But what is the story? Blink Twice follows billionaire tech mogul Slater King, played by Tatum, who throws a lavish fundraising gala. At the gala, he spots cocktail waitress Frida, played by Naomi Ackie. Sparks ignite, and Slater whisks Frida, her friend Jess and the other guests away on a dream vacation to his secluded island paradise. Sounds like a dream, right?

Beneath the veneer of luxury and opulence, the guests’ time on the island starts to sour. As strange occurrences chip away at the idyllic facade, Frida’s intuition screams that all is not as it seems. There’s something wrong with this place, and their survival depends on figuring out what it is.

We smell another worthy entry in the ‘Good For Her’ cinematic universe.

We already know that Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie lead this thriller. Tatum’s character, Slater King, is a “cool”, “laid-back” billionaire type. Sure, he’s exceedingly wealthy, but he seems chill about it. In fact, if you watch the trailer for Blink Twice below, you can see him assure Ackie’s sceptical Frida. But who else joins this stellar cast?

In the trailer, we meet Slater’s friends Cody, Vic and Tom, played by Simon Rex, Christian Slater and Haley Joel Osment respectively. We also meet Frida’s close pal Jess, played by Alia Shawkat, who gets whisked off to the island as well.

On top of that, we have veteran megastars Kyle MacLachlan and Geena Davis in the film as well. Blink Twice has pulled out all the stops to make sure we see actors we know and love in situations and roles we’ve never seen them in before. It’s this type of subversion that helps build what’s surely going to be Kravitz’s singular directorial style.

Notably, Kravitz doesn’t star in Blink Twice, but this means we get to truly appreciate her breadth of talent in a completely new light. With a project that’s been years in the making, Kravitz has put her all into making a film that sets itself, and herself, apart, and it looks like it’s going to pay off big time.

Trust us — this won’t be the last time we see ‘Directed by Zoë Kravitz’ on the big screen.

Blink Twice lands in cinemas nationwide on August 22. Be sure to head to your local cinema to appreciate both Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz in an entirely new light, and see the movie that gave us one of the 2020s most-beloved A-list couples.
