Dear gentlest reader, are you ready for more “Bridgerton“? Because the latest trailer for the “Queen Charlotte” prequel series has just arrived. The second project in the Bridgerton universe is all about the origin story of the gossip-obsessed monarch, supremely played by Golda Rosheuvel in the Netflix original.
On Feb. 14, the streamer released the show’s first teaser, which showed Queen Charlotte and King George fighting for their love, and announced a May release date right along with it. Then, on March 23, Netflix dropped a full-length trailer for “Queen Charlotte,” which shows Charlotte’s arranged marriage to George, as well as the many obstacles that stand in the way of their blossoming love story.
The new footage comes months after the streamer released the first look at the prequel series in September 2022, giving fans a taste of “Sex Education” actor India Ria Amarteifio as she steps into the royal role of young Queen Charlotte.
Netflix first announced plans for “Queen Charlotte” in May 2021, and “Bridgerton” fans have been eagerly waiting ever since. In March 2022, shortly after season two of “Bridgerton” landed on Netflix, we finally got a peek at the cast via an Instagram post shared by the “Bridgerton” account.
The caption listed Amarteifio, Adjoa Andoh, and Arsema Thomas as the newest “Queen Charlotte” recruits. “For her next series,” it read, “Lady @shondarhimes will chronicle Her Majesty’s rise to prominence and esteemed power in a prequel that shall witness @goldarosheuvel reprise her role and @india_amarteifio join the Ton as young Queen Charlotte. Lady Danbury @adjoa.andoh and @arsemathomas as her younger self will also be participating in the social season, alongside none other than Ruth Gemmell, as Lady Bridgerton, and Corey Mylchreest as a young King George.”
“Queen Charlotte” will operate on two timelines: one with Queen Charlotte, King George, Lady Danbury, and Violet as fans have met them in “Bridgerton,” and another with them in their youth as they figure out their lives, loves, and reshape British society. “Bridgerton” creator Shonda Rhimes serves as showrunner as well as an executive producer of the series.
Ahead, read everything else we know about “Queen Charlotte” so far and watch the newest trailer.
