Looking Back at the Bring It On Red Carpet 20 Years Later – Yes, Toe Rings Are Involved
It’s been 20 years since Bring It On entered our lives and blessed us with memorable movie quotes to shout every time we get the chance and nostalgic looks to recreate for Halloween or, you know, just whenever we feel like it. But what did Kirsten Dunst, Gabrielle Union, Eliza Dushku, and the rest of the cast wear when they showed up to the red carpet premiere? That’s a whole story on its own, and surprisingly relevant to scan for trends 20 years later, when our nostalgia for the early aughts is extremely prevalent in fashion.
Dunst wore an off-the-shoulder floral dress with an asymmetrical fringe hemline that skirted right around her strappy metallic sandals. (I’m pretty sure I saw those on Zara’s site yesterday.) Union showed us the power of the going out top, complete with white, low-slung jeans that definitely made a statement – and almost every actress showed up with a beaded mini bag that we’d probably call an It item if we saw one on Instagram. Nicole Bilderback, who played Whitney in the film, even wore a toe ring, which is the single most exciting piece of jewelry to spot at this premiere for sure. Scroll down to reminisce with us in honor of the movie’s 20-year anniversary.

Kirsten Dunst at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
Kirsten Dunst, aka Torrance Shipman, wore a green floral off-the-shoulder dress that would be completely appropriate with a similar strappy metallic heel today. The asymmetric fringe skirt was a sight to see from all angles, and the backless design added extra sex appeal.
Gabrielle Union at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
Gabrielle played Isis, captain of the East Compton Clovers cheer team. She arrived on the red carpet in the ultimate 2000s look consisting of a shift halter top covered in sequins and beads coordinated with low-rise gold studded flares and heeled sandals.
Eliza Dushku at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
Eliza played Missy, who had a tough, edgy style in the film. But Eliza surprised in an elegant white slip sheath – a very Kate Moss ’90s reference – that she then jazzed up with accessories that spoke to the decade. Eliza carried a mini crystal-studded purse with a turquoise beaded handle, wore brown satin heels with a flower adornment, and finished the outfit with a matching gold hoop and drop necklace set. Bangles were the finishing touch.
Tsianina Joelson at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
Joelson played Darcy, a memorable Toro from the squad. How major is this open back, silk scarf tunic that she wore with a matching rhinestone purse, bright blue spandex flares, and strappy velvet heels? My inner Limited Too obsessed kid is screaming.
Lindsay Sloane at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
“Big Red” arrived to the premiere in a slinky olive co-ord set that she wore with taupe, square-toed sandals. The neutrals might not have been as bright as some of the other looks, but these silhouettes were prominent in the early 2000s.
Clare Kramer at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
Clare, a fellow Toro, played Courtney in Bring It On, who had a bold personality – just like this red carpet look. Clare’s satin, jewel-toned separates came complete with a beaded fringe hem to match her choker, and she wore easy, black strappy sandals.
Nicole Bilderback at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
“W-w-w-whitney!” Nicole’s low-slung skirt and one-shoulder top were peach-perfect, and she played up the palette with a bolder-toned beaded fringe bag. Look closely, and you can make out a toe ring that dazzled alongside Nicole’s metallic sandals.
Richard Hillman at the Bring It On Premiere in 2000
We’ve got to hand it to Hillman, who played Aaron in the film – without his paisley throwover, beaded choker, and ombré tinted sunglasses, this red carpet would’ve been missing out on some particularly groovy undertones.
