Captain Jason on What Makes “Below Deck Down Under” Season 2 So “Real” and “Unique”
Captain Jason Chambers is back and manning the bridge once more for “Below Deck Down Under” Season 2 on Hayu. If you haven’t hopped on board yet, it’s high time you do. And according to the captain himself, it’s about as “real” as any reality show can get. This season, the crew is navigating the stunning waters of Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, delivering a charter adventure like no other.
Prepare to immerse yourself in the lives of the crew as they live, work, and party together during a whirlwind six-week charter season on a luxurious superyacht. Because, let’s face it, what’s better than peeking into the lives of the ultra-rich? You tell us!
Speaking with POPSUGAR Australia, Chambers spilled some tea on what viewers can expect from the exciting new season, crew dynamics and what’s next for ‘Captain Cutie’ himself.
Season 2 of “Below Deck Down Under” is Full of “Drama”
From wild guest antics to a “love pentagon”, and yes, even a shocking crew termination — this season is packed with surprises that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
“There’s a lot of guests, drama and a lot of guest events going on. There’s one episode with a guest that is very new to me and that’ll be interesting to see,” he says. “And there’s another episode with a guest, a pretty big event happens which I can’t really give much detail about.” Don’t you just love a bit of suspense?
But despite living onboard with the guests and crew, Chambers admits that he is separated from all the drama unless it comes knocking on his door.
“I only see what you [viewers] see when it comes to the ‘love pentagon’ and all that. I don’t get to witness all that, and being a captain, a lot of that happens when they’re out and down below. [I] didn’t know really what was going on at the time,” he says.
“Unless it’s in front of me, I wouldn’t know, and I don’t know unless someone comes and snitches,” he adds. “That’s how real the show is. And I think that’s why it’s so unique.”
Chambers on “Most Exciting” Aspect of New Season
Returning home to Australia was an absolute blast for Jason, and he was beyond stoked to be back amidst the stunning waters of Cairns.
As he gushes about the experience, “The feedback that came from the Whitsundays from people from abroad, seeing the underwater life and seeing a little bit of Australia to able to do that again and up further north into the reef was amazing.”
He adds: “When I started this venture, the one thing that appealed to me was moving more into a travel show for people. And I think that ‘Down Under’ has definitely done that and showcased that.”

‘Captain Cutie’ Dishes on Crew Dynamics
From steamy romances and unexpected alliances, to crew members holding nothing back, this season’s crew dynamics are on another level. And Jason thinks the audience will “fall in love with the crew”.
“You’ve got some dorky crew members and then you got some cool dudes. No crew member is holding back this season,” he admits. “The audience is going to get to know each and every crew member, and I think that’s going to be good about this season. It’s not gonna be people hiding or worrying or whatever. They’re just letting it out.”
What’s Next for the Captain?
As the excitement continues to build, Captain Jason is focused on finding a balance between work and family life. Spending more time with his daughter is a top priority. But he also hopes there’s more Down Under adventures on the horizon for the “Below Deck” franchise.
“I think everyone’s going to enjoy Season 2. It’s just been amazing for us to be able to do it here in Australia and showcase it,” he says. “I feel pretty honoured to be the captain on ‘Below Deck Down Under’, it’s a wonderful feeling.”
“Below Deck Down Under” Season 2 premiered July 18 only on Hayu, ad-free with episodes dropping the same day as US.
