We’re more than halfway through 2024, and it’s already been a wild ride for celebrity breakups. From shocking splits to the ones we kinda saw coming, the drama has been real.
Remember last year when 45 celebrity couples broke up? Well, 2024 isn’t holding back either. More and more stars are announcing their separations, and the reasons behind these breakups are as varied as the relationships themselves.
Take Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley, for example. Who saw that coming? And then there’s Landon Barker and Charli D’Amelio — definitely less surprising, but still buzzworthy. Celebrity relationships are tough, no matter how glamorous they seem.
Without further ado, let’s dive into the biggest celebrity breakups of 2024 so far.
Biggest Celebrity Breakups of 2024 So Far
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck (August)
After months of rumours swirling about the duo going their separate ways, the news has now been confirmed. Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, just two years after tying the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022.
The filing was made at the L.A. County Superior Court. The new filing also lists their date of separation as April 26 earlier this year. The date of the divorce filing falls exactly on the second anniversary of their traditional wedding ceremony on Aug. 20, 2022.
The pair split in January 2004 just before their intended wedding, meaning their whirlwind relationship only lasted two years. But they managed to find their way back to one another nearly 20 years later.
Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury (August)
If you’ve been fans of Love Island UK, it’s likely you’ve followed Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury’s relationship. Since meeting on series 5 of the reality show in 2019, the influencer and professional boxer were one of the show’s most successful love stories. The pair welcomed a daughter early last year and become engaged six months later.
However, in August, the couple announced their breakup on Instagram, each sharing personal statements. Molly-Mae started her message on Instagram stories with, “Never in a million years did I think I’d ever have to write this.” Reflecting on their relationship, she continued, “After five years of being together, I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way.”
And now everyone wants to know: What happened between Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury? Fans everywhere are buzzing with curiosity, trying to figure out the real story behind their breakup.
Harry Styles and Taylor Russell (May)
Looks like Haylor 2.0 has come to an end. Taylor Russell and Harry Styles, who were going strong for 14 months, are the latest celeb couple to call it quits. The Sun spilled the tea, revealing that their relationship hit a major roadblock after a “make-or-break” trip to Tokyo in April 2024.
“He’s been in America and she’s been in London. They made a lovely couple and it was obvious Taylor made Harry happy. Things have become strained recently though and they’ve taken some time out,” an insider told the outlet.
Bethenny Frankel and Paul Bernon (May)
Us Weekly reports that the Real Housewives of New York alum Bethenny Frankel and her boyfriend, Paul Bernon, have called off their engagement after six years together. A mutual friend of the former couple revealed to the outlet, “It just wasn’t going to work. They are so different — he’s an under the radar kind of guy.”
Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen (April)
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher decided to part ways after 13 years of marriage. On April 5, they took to their respective Instagram Stories to share the news.
“After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” they wrote in their statement, accompanied by a throwback photo of them dressed in tennis gear.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2010, revealed that they filed for divorce in 2023, though the official date of separation remains unclear.
Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley (April)
On April 3, Chance the Rapper and his wife, Kirsten Corley, shared some big news on social media — they’re getting a divorce.
“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways. We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together,” their message read.
Chance and Kirsten have been together since 2013, and they have two daughters: Kensli, who is now 7, and Marli, who is 4.
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott (March)
So, on March 29, Tori Spelling filed for divorce from her hubby of almost 18 years, Dean McDermott. Yup, just a few weeks shy of their 18th wedding anniversary. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star cited irreconcilable differences and marked June 17, 2023, as their official separation date.
But get this — she didn’t even tell McDermott herself. Instead, she dropped the bombshell on the first episode of her podcast, misSPELLING.
“It’s just a one sheet where you check divorce and irreconcilable differences,” she casually explained. “OK, I love you. Okay. Bye.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ryan Scott Anderson (March)
Just three months after Gypsy Rose’s release from prison, she and her husband are calling it quits. Gypsy confirmed the news in a statement to People, saying, “People have been asking what’s going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation, and I moved in with my parents down the bayou. I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now, I need time to let myself find… who I am.”
Kim Kardashian and Odell Beckham Jr. (March)
So, remember when fans were speculating that Odell might be the mysterious “Fred” Kim was talking about on The Kardashians? They were spotted together quite a bit, but it looks like things didn’t last long. Apparently, they called it quits just two weeks after hitting up the Vanity Fair Oscars Party together. According to the Daily Mail, Kim was open to the idea of having a child with Odell, but as of March 24, they are “no longer seeing one another”.
Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied (March)
Reports say Natalie actually filed for divorce quietly from Benjamin last July, but it’s only now that their split has been officially wrapped up. According to People, a rep for the actor also confirmed the news.
“It was initially really tough for her, but her friends rallied around her and helped get her through the worst of it,” spilled a friend of the couple. “Natalie has been through a rough and painful year, but she’s bouncing back stronger. She’s finding happiness in her family, friends, and work.”
KJ Apa and Clara Berry (March)
Clara took to TikTok to confirm the end of her relationship with KJ. She shared her thoughts on splitting custody, expressing, “I think it’s better to have parents who are separated but happy and able to be the best version of themselves, than staying together in a situation that is not working.”
Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling (February)
Ellie confirmed the news on Instagram, stating, “In light of recent stories, I feel I have been left with no choice but to let you all know that Caspar and I privately separated some time ago. We remain the closest of friends and have been successfully co-parenting with our sons best interests at heart. We are committed to protecting our family privacy and thank people in advance for respecting our wishes — we won’t be commenting further. Thank you.”
Meanwhile, Caspar shared, “Hi people — hope you’re having a good day. I feel (sadly) that I need to say something on mine and Ellie’s current relationship, that I hope more than anything will make any final tabloid speculation disappear. Ellie and I made the decision to separate some time ago. Our immediate family and close friends have known for some time — otherwise we chose to do what we could to keep this private. Ellie and I remain the closest of friends and, most importantly, ‘co-parents’ to the best kiddo in the world, Arthur. This is the last I want to say on this — and please ask that you respect mine and Ellie’s privacy. Thanks a lot, Caspar.”
Landon Barker and Charli D’Amelio (February)
In February 2024, Landon Barker, son of rockstar Travis Barker, and TikTok queen Charli D’Amelio ended their relationship after over a year of dating.
“Hey everyone, I would like to let you guys know that Charli and I are no longer together,” Barker shared on Instagram. “We broke up to focus on ourselves. We are still friends and have so much love for each other.”
