Marvel Will Not Use a Digital Double in Black Panther 2: “There's Only One Chadwick”
Following Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death from colon cancer earlier this year, the future of the Black Panther sequel is still up in the air. Filming is set to begin in early 2021, but details about the plot and what will be happening to Boseman’s titular character have yet to be revealed. What has been made clear, however, is that Marvel does not plan on using a digital double of Boseman.
Black Panther‘s executive producer Victoria Alonso denied rumors of using Boseman’s digital appearance in a previous interview with Clarín. “There’s only one Chadwick, and he’s no longer with us,” she told the outlet. “Sadly, our king has died in real life, not only in fiction, and we’re taking a little time to see how we continue the story and how to honor this chapter of what has unexpectedly happened to us, so painful and terrible to be honest. Chadwick wasn’t only a wonderful human being, every day of the five years we spent together, but also, I believe, that what he did as a character elevated us as a company, and has left his moment on history.”
