Rian Johnson is clearing up one particular “Knives Out” mystery. At a press conference at the London Film Festival on Oct. 16, the “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” director confirmed that Daniel Craig’s character, Benoit Blanc, is definitely part of the LGBTQ+ community.
When asked directly if Blanc was queer, per Deadline, Johnson said, “Yes, he obviously is.” Speculation about Blanc’s sexuality was fueled during the London screening by a scene in “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” that seems to show Blanc living with another man.
Johnson, who also directed 2019’s “Knives Out,” refused to share the name of the actor who plays Blanc’s partner, but he did speak highly of him. “No spoilers, [but] who wouldn’t want to live with that person?” he said at the event. “There’s nobody in the world I can imagine in bringing me more joy for Benoit Blanc to be with.”
“Glass Onion” finds Craig traveling to Greece to solve another complicated murder mystery. The movie was filmed on location in Greece during lockdown, which was a bonding experience for the cast. “It did feel like we were this traveling circus together which added, I think, to the texture of the movie,” said Kathryn Hahn, who plays a Connecticut governor with Senate aspirations, per Insider. “That kind of closeness that we were able to create under those circumstances really added [to the movie].”
“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” also stars Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Leslie Odom Jr, and Janelle Monáe, among others. It will premiere in theaters on Nov. 23, and it hits Netflix on Dec. 23.
