We kind of knew things weren’t going well for “MAFS” couple Duncan and Alyssa. The pair have been on rocky terms for weeks. Alyssa’s pressure about balancing her time and attention between her child and her relationship bubbled up, causing a rift between the pair. Some say she’s even self-sabotaging the relationship over it.
But can you believe we are almost at the end of the experiment already? I mean, it’s been almost three months of drama-filled nights, but is it bad to say I’m going to miss it all? However, I swear if I ever hear the word ‘gaslight’ again, I’m going to explode.
Well, it’s not over just yet. And, before we say goodbye to our couples, they had one final challenge to face: Final Vows. Each participant needed to make a decision about whether to call it quits on their relationship or continue it in the outside world or not.
Alyssa and Duncan were one of the first couples to face the music and, let’s just say, things got pretty awkward.
Alyssa’s Vows
The bride started off first and reflected on her time in the experiment with Duncan. She hoped to help him open up by sharing her feelings with him. She had made her choice and confirmed how much she wanted to have a relationship with Duncan outside of the experiment.
Facing each other to confirm their decision about the future, Alyssa aired her worry that her emotional heart would clash with Duncan’s logical brain. Despite this, she was adamant that she wanted to fight for their relationship.
“There’s so many pieces of our puzzle that we haven’t found yet. But I want to find them with you,” she told him.
Duncan’s Vows
Duncan reflected on all of the positives of the relationship. He had to say goodbye because he couldn’t ignore the significant difference in their views on what a healthy relationship should look like.
“I struggled with being shut out for days on end and not being able to communicate. I thought the couples’ retreat was a turning point in our relationship,” he said.
“…But week to week it felt harder to continue to grow the connection that started so well. I know what love is, I know what a great relationship it and I think we both deserve that. Our views on what a healthy relationship looks like seem to be apart. I feel emotionally rejected more times than I can remember. Maybe it’s our personalities, maybe it’s our differing mindsets. But either way, the gap seems too big to bridge.
“I don’t want to hurt you and I don’t want to continue getting hurt, so I have to say goodbye.”
Alyssa was lost for words, admitting she “didn’t expect that”. The pair stood in an awkward silence before the bride walked away.
“I feel sick, I feel betrayed. I don’t know who that person is. I feel like Duncan is looking for a princess to take care of. But I’m not a princess, I’m a queen,” she told cameras.
Fans React to Alyssa’s Dumping
While we all weren’t overly surprised that Duncan decided to run for the hills, it was a massive shock for Alyssa. Fans on Twitter have called the bride “delusional”. They also noticed how she deflected all of her own issues onto Duncan.
Alyssa is completely delusional.

How can it be such a big surprise? She’s treated Duncan like shit for weeks. #mafs #mafsau
Alyssa is absolutely mental, the relationship turned purely because of her and her selfish attitude and Duncan speaking up and sticking up for himself which she absolutely hated. Most narcissistic gaslighting prick on the whole show. #mafs #MAFSAU

It’s sad to see how delusional Alyssa was thinking her relationship with Duncan was working.

I genuinely feel sorry for her.
Let’s hope she can reflect, learn, and heal.
Most importantly, stop hiding behind her child. #MAFSAU #MAFS #MarriedatfirstsightAustralia
Alyssa is an expert in propaganda. Accusing Duncan of everything that she’s doing#MAFS #MAFSAU

Alyssa saying Duncan’s changed and that he needs to be “helped” by her and taking zero accountability then being shocked that he was done… #MAFS #MAFSAU pic.twitter.com/s57WuXyAGe
