“Gladiators” is a series that grabs the most hardcore iconography from the hallow halls of history. There’s a man named Viking. There’s also a woman called Elektra. There is even a Gladiator named Spartan entering the Arena.
What’s more, “Gladiators” has 100% earned the right to use such names and imagery. For this series is full to the brim with action, excitement, and mayhem.
In “Gladiators”, a number of permanent competitors, also called Gladiators, battle against a number of one-time contestants, called Challengers. These battles consist of a series of wrestling matches, obstacle course races, and other feats of strength.
According to Liz Ellis, the co-host of “Gladiators”, the challenges in this series are the real McCoy. In a phone call with The Latch, she was excited to discuss two gladiatorial gauntlets, Powerball and Pyramid.
“Powerball’s in there,” Liz shared, “which is the lovechild of rugby league and netball. There’s people being tackled and people trying to score goals. That was my favourite, that was just awesome to watch.
“There’s also pyramid, which is just amazing. Watching the Gladiators and the Contenders tumble up these steps made from foam? It’s just phenomenal.”
However, while we know the likes of Spartan will be competing in Powerball and Pyramid, we don’t know if they’ll dominate these competitions.
Will Spartan be a warrior in these challenges? Can he beat his competition? Here is everything we know about Spartan.
Who Is Spartan on “Gladiators”?
On “Gladiators” 2024, Spartan is being performed by Khan Porter, a 33-year-old man representing NSW. Khan is best known for spending the past eleven years competing at the highest levels of CrossFit. He also studied psychology and is a massive mental health advocate.
As Spartan, Khan will be a ruthless, disciplined warrior. Honour is important to him. Pain is no barrier. Spartan will push himself to the limit and win at any cost. So, if this won’t make him a threat on the Powerball field, then who knows what will.
In multiple social media posts, Khan has hyped up his Spartan performance.
“The first beauty influencer of the ancient world,” Khan wrote, “Gladiators, ready.”
“Gladiators” is set to premiere at 7.30pm on Monday, January 15, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand. Miss its premiere? Catch up on 10 Play.
