This season of Celebrity Apprentice has been an absolutely wild ride, both on and offscreen.
The fifth season of the iconic reality series has been airing on Channel 9, and it’s been spicy from the jump.
First, let’s talk about The Veronicas, who have been absolutely GOING OFF on social media about their depiction on the show. Most notably, the duo penned a scathing open letter, in which they said that their “genuine intentions and passion” had been “reduced to an edit”.
Calling the edit “disgusting”, they slammed the show for portraying them to be “strong arming other team members and outwardly using our mother’s condition for sympathy and manipulative tactics”.
In a later tweet, they also said that “being gaslit over an edit over something so close to [their] hearts [has been] truly beyond comprehension”. The twin sisters joined the show in order to raise money and awareness for The Brain Foundation, as they are the primary caregivers of their mother Colleen, who suffers from a rare neurological condition called progressive supranuclear palsy.
The pair were given the boot earlier this week, but their elimination came with a heart-warming twist; Shaynna Blaze caught up with them as they were leaving the boardroom and told them that the money they’d earned along the way would still be donated to The Brain Foundation.
“I don’t wanna take anything away from you,” Blaze said tearfully. “So, every cent that you’ve earned… it’s yours. I can’t take that, it’s yours. We’re here for charity, we’re here for things that are so close to our hearts. You’re here for all the right reasons, you’re here for your mum, and I can’t walk away without giving that money to you.”
But the drama certainly hasn’t just been off-screen. We’ve had Martha Kalifatids and Anthony Callea dragging each other’s work ethic, each blaming the other for not doing their jobs properly.
As Janine Allis put it, Team Momentum’s efforts during the Budgy Smuggler challenge was “absolute chaos”, and the whole thing quickly devolved from there.
Martha accused Anthony of “always shrugging off responsibilities,” and Anthony was quick to retort that there was a “lack of leadership” and respect. Eep!
Eventually, Martha won the war, and Anthony was sent packing. Honestly, we’re still dying to know how things played out behind-the-scenes, and whether the pair have spoken since then.
Drama and chaos have followed Martha through the series, but as we go into finale week on Sunday, it looks like things are about to become next-level hectic, as the influencer is accused of cheating.
Obviously, we’re dying to see what happens next, and lucky for us, the Queen’s birthday won’t slow things down on the Celebrity Apprentice front.
Monday’s episode will air as normal, at 7.30pm AEST on Channel 9. If you happen to miss it, you can also catch up on 9Now.
