Julia Fox has opened up about her surprising decision to embrace celibacy. The 34-year-old actress and model appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she discussed her two-and-a-half years of abstinence.
“I just think nothing good comes from having sex, including children. No, I’m just kidding,” she quipped. Fox revealed that her decision was partly influenced by the political climate, specifically the Supreme Court’s controversial overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, which had previously safeguarded women’s constitutional right to abortion.
“I think with the overturning of Roe v. Wade and our rights being stripped away from us, this is a way that I can take back the control,” she explained. “And it just sucks that it has to be in that way, but I just don’t feel comfortable until things change.”
Initially, Fox didn’t plan on such an extended period of celibacy. “It was six months, and then it was a year, and then I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it’s almost two and a half years and it’s still going’,” she shared.
“Eventually You Just Forget”
When host Andy Cohen inquired whether she missed sex, Fox admitted that the initial phase was challenging, but she soon adapted.
“No, in the beginning, yes,” she admitted. “But I think it’s just like getting over anything — smoking, drugs, whatever it may be. Eventually you just forget and all that energy you were putting toward sex you can put toward other things.”
Fox is no stranger to public scrutiny, especially concerning her love life. After her very public relationship with Kanye West in 2022, she told the New York Times that there “wasn’t any” sex between them, adding, “It wasn’t really about that.” She also shares a son, Valentino, with her ex-husband Peter Artemiev, and has previously been romantically linked to Drake.
Fox’s journey into celibacy is a bold and personal statement in these crazy times. It’s a great reminder that sometimes the most personal choices can be the most powerful and game-changing.
