After months of public drama, Kanye West is apologising for any stress he’s caused Kim Kardashian. In a Sept. 22 appearance on “Good Morning America,” West shared a change of heart after coming under fire for deriding his ex and the mother of his four children on social media. “This is the mother of my children, and I apologise for any stress that I have caused, even in my frustration, because God calls me to be stronger,” he said.
Following their separation last year, West repeatedly aired disagreements with Kardashian about co-parenting their children. Among those publicly shared qualms, he expressed a desire for his daughter North West to not be allowed on social media, as well as a disapproval of her clothing. West also mocked Kardashian’s relationship with comedian Pete Davidson, which spanned from late 2021 to August 2022.
Though he is now apologising, in that same interview, West also walked back the sentiment as he expressed feeling an imbalance in his co-parenting with Kardashian: “But also, ain’t nobody else finna be causing no stress either.” He added, “I need this person to be less stressed, and of the best, sound mind, and as calm as possible to be able to raise those children.”
West claimed he has to fight for any say-so regarding their children. “I do have a voice, but I had to fight for it. That hurts you when you have to scream about what your kids are wearing . . . It was all a kind of disregard for the voice of something I co-created,” he said. “I have a right to have a voice on what my kids are wearing, what they’re watching, what they’re eating. I have a platform where I get to say what so many dads can’t say out loud.”
Apparently, the former couple’s most recent point of contention centres on what school their children attend, as West would like them to attend his gospel school, Donda Academy. “I want my kids to go to Donda, and I have to fight for a say-so.”
In February, Kardashian responded to West’s various attacks on her parenting in a statement, writing, “Kanye’s constant need for attacking me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful than any TikTok North might create. . . . Divorce is difficult enough on our children and Kanye’s obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all.” While Kardashian said she wants “nothing but a healthy and supportive co-parenting relationship,” West’s behaviour “continues to make it impossible every step of the way.” She concluded her statement with, “I wish to handle all matters regarding our children privately.”
While West is somewhat apologising for his antagonistic social media posts, it’s clear he’s still not playing ball when it comes to keeping their familial disagreements private.
