Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons's Friends-to-Lovers Relationship Will Melt Your Heart

Dunst and Plemons struck up a friendship while filming season two of the FX hit series “Fargo” in 2015. On the show, they portrayed married high school sweethearts, Peggy and Ed Blomquist. At the time, Dunst was in a long-term relationship with fellow actor Garrett Hedlund.

The couple first sparked dating rumours when they were spotted packing on the PDA while strolling around in Studio City, CA. Their newfound romance made headlines just one month after rumours began swirling that Dunst and Hedlund had called it quits on their four-year relationship.

In January 2017, the “Fargo” couple made headlines after Dunst was photographed sporting a beautiful oval-shaped diamond ring on that finger at Paris Fashion Week. A source confirmed to Us Weekly that the two had in fact gotten engaged after the holidays. However, Dunst first publicly spoke about their engagement during a June 2017 appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” It was also the first time either of them had confirmed the romantic nature of their relationship as well.

Almost a year and a half after getting engaged, Dunst and Plemons welcomed their first baby boy, Ennis Howard Plemons, on May 3, 2018. The news came a few months after the “Bring It On” actress confirmed her pregnancy in a gorgeous portrait series for Rodarte. The parents have chosen to keep their children mostly out of the spotlight, including on social media.

On Aug. 29, 2019, Dunst received one of the highest distinctions in Hollywood: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. At the ceremony, Plemons gushed over his fiancée and the admirable work she’s put out since first breaking into the industry three decades prior.

“Seeing the kind of mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and cohort you are is why I and all of your friends and everyone else are here today, and why we all love you,” he said during his speech. “It’s for the incredibly generous and amazing person that you are.”

“You are truly one of a kind and the best woman I know,” he beamed. “I’m so lucky to have you in my life, and Hollywood Boulevard is so lucky to have you on its sidewalks.”

In a September 2021 interview with the New York Times, Dunst revealed she and Plemons had welcomed their second son, James Robert Plemons, four months prior. “This is the newest guy, the Big Kahuna,” Dunst lovingly teased. “He’s an angel, but he’s a hungry angel. And a heavy angel.”

Dunst’s surprise pregnancy announcement came in the form of a dreamy photo cover for W Magazine’s annual Directors Issue, which hit stands in April 2021. Once again, Dunst posed in Rodarte – this time, in a custom white ethereal dress.

One thing is for sure: Plemons never has enough beautiful and meaningful things to say about his life partner. Speaking exclusively with People days after the premiere of “The Power of the Dog,” the actor said he can’t dream of doing another project unless Dunst is also tied to it. “I don’t wanna do another project without her. It’s just the best,” he told People. “We fell in love creatively first on ‘Fargo,’ just immediately trusted each other. I’m constantly amazed by what she brings. She just operates from such a deep place in her soul.”

Plemons and Dunst have yet to tie the knot, but wedding bells might finally be on the horizon. “We call each other husband and wife. But we have to get married at this point. It’s ridiculous. We just haven’t planned a wedding,” Dunst told the Los Angeles Times. “There was COVID, then we had another child. I didn’t want to be pregnant, get married, have a party and not be able to have fun with everybody,” she further explained. Perhaps we’ll have a wedding to look forward to in 2023?

Both Dunst and Plemons are poised to take home some serious hardware this award season for their performances in “The Power of the Dog.” Plemons accompanied Dunst to the SAG Awards on Feb. 27, where she was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role. Plemons earned a BAFTA Film Awards nomination for best supporting actor. Even more exciting is that both actors are up for their very first Academy Award for best supporting actress and best supporting actor, and “The Power of the Dog” leads the Oscars with 12 nominations.
