Lady Gaga was omnipresent at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. One moment she was arriving in an avant-garde spacesuit, and the next she was honoring her friendship with Ariana Grande in a heartfelt speech before taking the stage with the fellow pop star to perform “Rain on Me” in a truly otherworldly Chromatica medley. (I’m tired for her.) Along the way, she also picked up almost as many awards as the amount of vastly creative face masks she wore.
Seriously though, Gaga dominated in the following four categories: artist of the year, song of the year, best collaboration, and best cinematography. She also became the first-ever recipient of the award show’s newly invented Tricon award, which, well, honors triple-threat icons. Gaga then solidified her Tricon status – it’ll catch on? – by dramatically posing with her five moon person trophies in an MTV T-shirt with inexplicable wind in her hair. Look ahead for the photographic proof, as well as other standout moments from Gaga’s busy evening.
