Get to Know Lashana Lynch, BAFTA's New Rising Star

Lashana Lynch was crowned 2022’s rising star at the 75th annual BAFTA Film Awards on March 13, and as a result, we expect to see a lot more from her in the future. Despite the fact that the actor’s been in the industry for a number of years, it appears that Lynch is only just getting her flowers, and it’s about time. On accepting her award, Lynch shared a heartfelt speech with a tribute to her Jamaican heritage.

“Thank you to everyone involved in my career. I have very supportive parents, whose parents came from Jamaica in the Windrush generation, and I have them to thank for my existence,” Lynch began. “I’m grateful for a working-class foundation that has taught me everything I needed to know about failure, about no’s and about what no’s mean, and about your yesses. And now, I get to celebrate a yes I never expected.” She added that “I’d like to thank the women of this country who taught me what it is to be in this industry as a dark-skin woman. I thank you for laying the foundation for people like me.”

Best known for her role as Rosaline Capulet in ABC’s “Still Star-Crossed” in 2017, the actor went on to play fighter pilot Maria Rambeau in “Captain Marvel” the following year. Most recently, Lynch starred as MI6 agent Nomi in James Bond’s “No Time to Die.” The actor is also due to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for “The Marvels,” set for release in 2023. Lashana Lynch's First Film Was the 2012 Drama, "Fast Girls"

Lynch made her film debut back in 2012, starring in a drama called “Fast Girls” that was first premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. In the film, Lynch plays a runner from a British team nominated for the World Athletics Championships.

Back in 2016, Lynch was cast as the leading character, Rosaline Capulet, in the American period drama “Still Star-Crossed.” The series was produced by “Bridgerton” creator Shonda Rhimes and unfortunately was cancelled in 2017 after just one season.

Lynch appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, “Captain Marvel,” as Maria Rambeau. Her character was an Air Force pilot and the single mother of Monica Rambeau, someone who grows into a pretty important part of the MCU in her own right.

Lashana Lynch Plays MI6 Agent Nomi in "No Time To Die" in 2021

Lynch’s most recent role was playing the character of Nomi, a new MI6 agent that works alongside retired agent James Bond (played by Daniel Craig). Lynch’s role marked not only the first female 007 agent ever, but also the first Black female agent, so it’s safe to say that she’s been making history for a little while now.
