In what was just another day in the life, Lil Nas X was awarded with, well, his very own day. A little over a month after the release of the rap superstar’s well-received debut album, Montero, the Atlanta City Council deemed Oct. 20 Lil Nas X Day in the city, which is close to the Lithia Springs, GA, community where he grew up. “His artistic influence and transformative music continue to shape Atlanta and the world,” the proclamation read.
A celebration was thrown to mark the occasion, with stars including Chloe Bailey and Kandi Burruss in attendance. Presenting the certificate was Antonio Brown, who made history as the city’s first openly gay city councilman when he was elected in 2019. Antonio read Lil Nas X the proclamation, which stated, “He has made a considerable impact on the LGBTQ community by reshaping how society accepts LGBTQ artists within the music industry and empowering others to break barriers and be more open, expressive, and personal through music and art.”
