Married at First Sight’s Jason Apologises For Homophobic Rant in Resurfaced Video
Married at First Sight groom Jason Engler has apologised for the homophobic rant which was caught on video and anonymously circulated.
“I would like to sincerely apologise for my comments in regards to a fellow MAFS participant’s sexuality,” he said in a statement made to the Daily Mail. “After a few too many drinks I made some inappropriate remarks that I am ashamed of and greatly regret. I will learn from this and try to become a better person from this experience.”
In the video, Engler is accompanied by two other cast members of the series, Georgia Fairweather and Johnny Balbuziente, and is seen wearing two pairs of sunglasses while shirtless.
The footage, which was obtained by the So Dramatic Instagram page, sees Engler calling himself “rat dog”, followed by the fact that he doesn’t “give a s–t anymore” because he’s “free” and is “gonna run amok in Brisbane”. While this seems pretty harmless, it was when he calls fellow groom Liam Cooper “ugly and chubby”, that things began to escalate.
“Georgia is way hotter than him,” he said before calling the openly bi-sexual reality star a “full-blown homosexual”.
Egged on by Fairweather (who is currently married to Cooper in the show), he said: “I just wanna say… Georgia’s husband is a full-blown homosexual. He’s ugly and chubby and doesn’t go to the gym… He does not go to the gym. He does not go to the gym. He has not gone to the gym in 64 years. And, um, Georgia is way hotter than him and (he’s) batting way above his average. And she just has to say ‘shut yo mouth and get out of here you little chubby wanker’ in a couple of days… And that’s all I have to say about that.”
According to the Daily Mail, the video was filmed three days before the final vows took place and Cooper brings up the video at the reunion, which was filmed in February.
